New Graphics. ATI??

My beloved Nvidia 8800 GTS is failing/failed. I need to replace it and was considering trying ATI. Partially due to the fact that my MB is crossfire ready anyhow. Not looking to spend a ton right now but I would like to have at least similar performance to an nvidia 8800. I haven't shopped ATI in years so I have no idea what is their comparable model.

my HIS 4670 (yes 4670 NOT 4870) out preforms my friends 8800 so its worth the 80$ or for like 150ish get a 4850 that would be good
 
I'd get the 4830. $100 bucks of bliss, considering it plays fallout 3 on 1440/900 with ease.
 
I love my 4850. It handles pretty much whatever i throw at it quite well. world in conflict maxed out on my system i average 30fps at 1680 x 1050. I have 2gb ram and my c2d is running at 3.3ghz.
 
an HD4870 would outfit you mighty fine. have the 4850 downstairs and it does me proud.
 
If you still have warranty you should RMA your videocard,
if you do go replacing it, make sure your card is a dual slot cooler solution, they cool better than single slot videocards
 
What resolution do you plan on running?

1680x1050 and down go with a HD4850/4830

1920x1200 and up, go with a HD4870 1gb
 
Would go with a 4870 if you got the cash I got HIS 4870, and it's quite good. ;)
 
That would do it too. Bit of an over kill for most games... I play COD4 48 player server max graphics no issues... :/
 
you should buy nvidia they have better game graphics ati= movie and pictures
 
If you are looking for a comparable model for the 8800 gts and shopping a little lower than the newest line, then the 3850/3870 should do you fine. That or looking at the 4800's below the 4850.
