Conficker Worm Virus

Hey guys, this is frantic from over in the CS:S division. I just found out my computer has been infected with the Conficker virus a.k.a. April Fools Worm. Just be on the look out for this thing. It works by infecting your computer and preventing automatic updates to your malmare/firewall so it cocoons itself deep inside your PC so it can't be tracked. Well, it has already infected tens of millions of computers and the master switch came on today. Millions have been hit today....if you are reading this then you are probably okay lol. However, if your automatic updates haven't been installing, OR you dont use computer protection, you may be at great risk. The best thing you can do if you are infected is to return back to your last restore point. If that doesn't work, I don't know much else to help you with this worm. Good Luck everyone, pray we don't take to much damage. Also, definitely try to avoid any online banking, or financial transactions today, as the virus has a master server that IS monitoring select websites based out of YOUR computer. BE SAFE.

well if you find out that your pc hase been infected the best and sefest way to get rid of it is to do a complete formate or your pc and btw microsoft is already going to be makeing a patch to stop it..

I've seen this, unfortunately for me, it is too late. The emergency patch that was made my Microsoft could only remove the virus until today. The patch has been out for a few weeks, unfortunately...again, my eyes were elsewhere. Today is the day the virus kicked in, the patch has finished what it could for people. The current battle right now is under way with the "Cabal" who are simply trying to prevent and illegal activities that would spawn from the so called "zombie urls". I'm going to use my restore point tonight, which should take care of the virus, but if not, yes, I will execute a complete formate.

I forgot to add, the patch will not work for infected PCs because the Conficker virus prevents automatic updated AND it prevents patches from being installed. Infact, the author(s) of the virus even coded it to enable them to patch the virus itself. lol, even some of the people who used the patch were unsuccessful because the author(s) patched their virus after the Microsoft patch was sent out! It's a giant cat and mouse game, and right now....the mice are outwitting the cats.

the easiest way to tell if your system is infected, is to check your windows update, see if its turned off. if its on, your ok, if its off, you have it. hope many of you dont have it.

Yeah, my computer got it, but it has nothing to do with what you download...this virus isn't brought it, it seeks out weakly protected computers based on online URLs...all you have to do is travel the internet and if your firewall has any flaws....cough* Vista cough* (my PC)...then you are at a much greater risk.....but if your seeing this post than you don't have it.

So I went and looked to see if my Firewall was off... and what do you know it was.... I think I turned it off at some point though awhile back and forgot to turn it on.... good thing I run Zonealarm and a smooth wall firewall...

It'd be epic if someone reverse-engineered this to find out how the commands or whatever got to it and infected the person who put it out. Preferably if said reverse-engineer has a good sense of humor and is able to avoid taking things too far. I doubt it could be done as the creator probably knows a fair bit about security, but wishful thinking is nice.
