Are you stats conscious?

I used to care about my rank for a bit, but I play on the Ir 2fort server a lot where someone kills me and gets 40 points then I kill them and get 2 points. Really all I care about now is my KDR because I could be doing really well but getting tanked by a bunch of new players that kill me that just joined the server for the first time.

when I first started I was really stat conscious and it did two things:
1. forced me to learn to play better
2. made me expect to never die to anyone below me

I agree, it's a double-edged sword. I've weaned myself off of them and I have more fun now. I'm more concerned with working with a group of players and having fun rather than analyzing my individual process in-game. Funny thing is that my stat have risen more since I stopped obsessing over them than when I was checking every death and every day.

Use them to see who is a challenge to you. Use them to see what kinds of weapons and play styles you prefer. Don't use them to rank your fun (fun is the whole reason it is called a game).

It is fun seeing the crazy points you get from killing the higher ranked players.

wonders how that feels, just get 2 points, maybe 3 tops when I use my bottle :P

But stats motivate me to become better, but the downside is that you get more frustrated by critical hits also you will track ingame your kdr of your session and al.
It just motivates you to become even better.

But I must have admitted it, when the hlstatsx were down it was fun

I admit I do look at stats, but not as much scores as my kill death ratio (I want to be efficient!) And when I play medic (my most played class) I look at my death/assists.

But sometimes scores and even KDRs can be decieving.

Take the poor, poor pyro. His job at the time? To compression blast stickies away from sentry and spy check, do you think he will get many points? No. But did he save your sentry, dispenser, and teleporter many times through many ubers by pushing them back and blasting stickies and stuff? Yes.

Just one example I can think of that shows that score isnt everything. As a medic I also look at how much I have healed in the game, if its not a lot, I start healing more people, heh.

Anyway, thats stats for me, if you were talking about HLstats, then sorry I am off topic haha.

I really try to ignore the stats - I know they serve a purpose, but if get distracted and check on my stats (which are pitiful anyway) or worry about what my stand is, then the fun of the game is lost. The idea for is then to just play and have fun...:P

I sort of think that stats are a double edged sword.

They make people play more conservatively, they hinder people from trying and learning to play classes that they aren?t good at, and they can often promote a play-style that is less team oriented.

This is def a critical shortcoming of the stats system. OTOH, there are times when your team is either so bad, or they just want to play classes that don't help, or practice at a class they aren't good at, that playing conservatively is your best option.

I never really cared for stats. All of those standard deviations and weighing the significance of the population with regard to your trend analysis. Yeah I can do it, but it's really dry you know? I'd rather be playing TF2.

I just keep track of my pts/death and kill/death ratios. I play tf2 to have fun, although being good doesn't hurt ;).

I used to be crazy about stats so I set my self a goal of getting into the top 1000. I got to 876th, and now I've let myself go and have fun.

I got into the top 500, but y'know what, it's affecting my playing too much.
I haven't played recently because I knew my mouse was dying, and I might lose points.
(Okay, it wasn't THAT bad, but it was pretty bad.)
And I started playing today, just to have fun, and I actually did. :p
I actually do better when I'm not constantly checking to see my points.

It doesn't really matter to me. I play to win most of the time :p and the rest of the time I'm running around trying to hit people from behind with a shovel.

Stats affect the way I play greatly. I am not pround of it but they pretty much consume my gameplay. I am in the 70s of the world ranks and I an happy of that, but I try so hard to keep that rank that it consumes me. I am good with all clases (except spy) so that doesn't bother me as much, but I will ragequit sometimes if I am losing waaaay too much points.
