XBOX360 Advice!

I'm buying an XBOX360 Elite Resident Evil XBOX tomorrow.

I'm not into Horror games, so I don't really see myself playing the Res Evil game. Why am I buying the Res Evil Elite? It's RED. And it's got the latest motherboard, so I'm betting that I'll be safe(er) from the RROD. AND ITS RED.

I'm mainly getting it because I want to use the Windows Media Player 11 media connector and watch cool videos on my Big Screen TV that rarely get to display anything (we get one, count that one OTR channel).

But so I'm trying to decide what else I should buy while I'm there? I'm gonna get the XBOX, the media remote control, Oblivion (the special edition with both expansion packs), and the Orange Box used (Haven't played Ep1 or 2 yet, and would love to try the other games on the XBOX... I need practice with FPSes with dualsticks, so I might as well play shooters I"m used to anyway ).

What else should I get? I'm aiming for a total of about $600, and don't want to overshoot too much... and $400 of that is already XBOX. With my local sales tax, the total available is $554.28...

...so, I'm not an XBOX fan yet; I've only ever owned the Wii, so I don't know what is necessary for a fun XBOX environment

I prefer RPGs over FPSes. Suggestions?

One thing of advice

GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!

I got the elite, thinking it would be safer, but two months after my standard warranty was up, I got a hardware error, costing $140.



Gamewise, get Fallout 3 or Oblivion if you like RPGs

a lot depends on what uve already played on the PC ... don't wanna recommend great games like bioshock and FO3 if uve already played those you know? halo3 is a blast especially the multiplayer online but u did ask for rpgs not fps ... assassin's creed was also great but also for the PC ... so yeah ... have you played all those on PC?

Aside from the games, you should get the wireless network adapter if you dont plan to have a direct line for Xbox live. Its not cheap, but its worth it.

get fable 2, fallout 3, rockband is a lot of fun as well. If you got a family and friends its a great time to get together and play it especially on a big screen, if your wondering tf2 sucks on 360 imo. Ive played it on a friends 360 and it was just not even close to as good as pc. why not get a ps3 and install linux on it? It would be a great gaming rig/htpc.

I'm buying a Ethernet Switch and two cables, and putting it between my router and my PC/XBOX. That' should keep the media steaming off my router, as well.

As for PC games I've already played and loved...

Bioshock, Call of Duty: WaW, Counter-strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Fallout 3 (even though it keeps crashing D, All the Half-Lifes, Left 4 Dead, Portal, Quake series, Team Fortress Series.

Why, if I own most of it, am I looking at Orange Box? $20 used, and I get Ep 1 and Ep 2, AND practice with FPS playing with dual joysticks. Might as well practice with games I already know than try to figure out new games AND new controls...

i have a quake 4...and when i got it...i have a banus disc so i have quake 1, 2, 3 and 4, so if u like quake get the quake 4 with bonus disc...u may have to ask for it, and enemy territory quake wars

I just bought a 360 yesterday. I didn't go all crazy and get the new snazzy red one or even the black though. What's great about getting one now is there are so many games you can get cheap used that we've never played. I grabbed Rock Band 1 and Dead Rising each for under $20. Fable II is definitely on my radar since I enjoyed the first one on the first Xbox. Star Wars Force Unleashed is also going to be a must buy for me. I don't want to play any FPS games on the 360. That's why I have a PC. I'd suggest you grab the Half Life eps for the PC. You can probably buy the Orange Box for PC very cheap right now and then just gift the games you already have for the same price you'd spend on getting the Orange Box for the 360. I'd really like to get GTA IV but I'm in no rush for that one. My PC just couldn't handle it (though my specs are fine) at any playable settings. I never got around to finishing Gears of War on the PC so I'll probably grab that and then get the sequel down the line at some point.

What I'm most excited about? Beatles Rock Band in September. These Rock Band games are just sooooo much fun.
