Buy it only if there is games you want to play on it. Seeing as how you basically gave up your DS system twice, you probably don't have many games you want to play on the DS. So I would not recommend it to you.
However if you find a game you want to play, I highly recommend the DSi system. I have always found games that I love for the DS and play regularly, so the upgrade to the DSi was more of a natural thing for me.

I think the DSi is a great new system for people to get introduced to the Nintendo DS if they don't have one. It's larger screen and compact shape will do it good, and the cameras with built in editing will be fun for people who like that sort of thing.
However, at least in my opinion, the loss of the GBA slot is not worth it. For the hand held gamer there are still many gems in the GBA collection, and being able to play those on the DS is nice. Even if you have an SP for that purpose, sometimes you just want the brighter and better picture that you get for those games on the DS.
So again, for people that have never had a DS, you'll want to get the DSi. For the gamer that wants a more versatile hand held platform with greater gaming options, the DS Lite or even the original DS will be your better bet.

I think you have to do some "modding" to do that but I'm not entirely sure. How to do it is entirely outside my realm of knowledge.
Yes, at least one the fat/lite you can get devices for either just the DS slot that use micro SD cards, or things that use a storage thing in the GBA slot. And as far as I know, homebrew games are legal on them in the US - and there are a lot of good homebrew games/programs for the DS.

You can keep all your gameboy games by using the code on the internet system on the DSI to recieve them all so they are not gone. :laugh:
What do you mean using the code on the internet system? How does that work? Also what types of websites have roms and emulators for the DS?

The DSi (i own one) in my opinion is better than the Lite. Although it is missing a GBA slot it is by far the best DS so far. I'll start with the form factor, it is overall smaller that the Lite or the original. It is much thinner making it much thinner/smaller/pocket friendly/pwnsome/purse friendly/less big. Now ill address the GBA solt or lack there of. The GBA slot in my opinion is overrated i never play that many GBA games and Guitar hero for DS isn't that great, making the absence of a GBA slot a non issue. The DSi is also much improved under the hood. the processor clock speed has been raised form 67mhz to 133mhz making load times noticeably shorter. The ram has also been increased. Also the cameras are a welcome addition to the system, it will be interesting to see what games they will create to use it. This brings me to the new DSi ware store, this allows you to download DSi specific games that may utilize the cameras.
Now time to criticize.
The new DSi ware store allows Nintendo to update the firmware of the system in effort to thwart the home brewing community. Now this might not matter to the average user but if your like me it does. (luckily i still have my DS lite for that) Another complaint that i have is that
the wifi is not easilly turned off. instead of having a simple switch to turn it off you need to go through the options to turn it off, which is kinda a drag if you want to save battery life
wrap up: Overall i think the DSi is a great addion to the DS family and is a worthy system weather you are just getting one, your case, or if you are upgrading from a previous generation.

yah i have a good mp3 palyer, and a good camera. on top of that i like my gba slot for games, and periferals like the awsome space invaders paddle. overall, i think its not realy enough of an update to warrent and upgrade, and the price is also higher then i think the product is worth.
That's what bothers me about systems with all these features... the vast majority of people who get them already have stuff that does the same things, probably doing them even better. If you already have a DS, might as well just get an Ipod touch or something >_> the only reason i'd want one is honestly for novelty value. "Look, my Nintendo system plays games AND music now!" and you don't have to carry as much stuff around
