Monitor help!

Hi i recently did a reformat on my computer and now when i try to play games my monitor always turns off. On my 22in monitor it changes from Digital input (it just says "digital" so im assuming its the input) to Analog input.

well before i did the reformat i never used that monitor, so i went back to my 19in and the same thing happened, only when it turns off it says "Monitor Power saving mode" or something of that nature. It happens after playing a game for about 5-20 minutes.

it's really annoying because i cant play any games and the only way to get the screen to turn back on is to restart the computer manually. by the way... it only happens while playing games, not while surfing the net or anything else



please help, i dont know what to do

i'm not sure why this would happen just after the reformat...it may be a coincidence. anyway - my first thought would be that you're having a heat problem with your video card. your games tax the card more than anything else you do, and since it seems to be time related my guess is it works until you're hitting a certain temp, then everything dies. since it's happening on more than one monitor it's definitely not that.

so, here's what i would do to try and trouble shoot things:

1. make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card from the manufacturer's website. it may just be a driver issue

2. open up your case and make sure everything is clean, and that the fan on the video card is working properly. if there is anything hampering air-flow then get it taken care of

3. grab speedfan or a similar program and check your internal temps.

i'm guessing it's either a temp issue or a driver issue. give those a try and if nothing works come back and let us know.

i would try reinstall the drivers that came with the monitors. they should have come with cds try reinstalling everything on the cds from the monitor companys. because those are very odd errors.

I'm willing to guess that when you go into a game, the GPU either a) doesn't know how to render in 3D mode (and therefore doesn't report to the monitor); usually resolved my installing the latest drivers, or b) doesn't recognize the monitor as a 3d capable monitor (monitor drivers aren't installed).

I'm just guessing here...so take it all with a grain of salt.

Uninstalled monitor drivers can cause issues. Make sure they are installed.

First since this is from an install, be sure that you are not forcing the monitor to a resolution it does not like. Do a search for your monitor and its specs. If you went from a regular monitor to an LCD ensure it is on 60hz.

ok, a simplet thought maybe during the install your power scheme defaulted back. Double check your control panel, power scheme. If you never had this issue before it could be the drivers, power scheme, or your fan setting on the vcard.

Joe, what video card and operating system are you using? Can you also tell us what monitor you are using?
