Or get a good case with HDD silencers already installed ? xD

Mine does too. The case came with rubber washers that go around these special screws that are suppose to stop the HDDs from vibrating and resonating. It does the job on my 640GB but the I can still hear the 1TB as it reads and writes :facewall:

dude just poking around that site, QuietPCUSA...do silent VGA coolers actually work?
 
You should be able to find some really small rubber grommets. That's what I use on my Rocketfish, and I can't hear any of my 4 drives at all.

I'll take some pics when I get home.

@Endi: Yes and no. If you've got a 4870x2, no amount of metal is going to cool it down without a fan. If you've got a 3200 or something, you should be fine, those don't put out that much heat.

FYI, it's a 3.5" HDD (rite?). 5.25" is generally used for ODD, such as DVD readers/burners and front panel additions like card readers/USB headers.

where can you get grommets like that? Not necessarily for my HDD's as I have screwless cases, however I have another use for them in mind for a home projects that grommets that small would be useful for... thanks in advance.

I was stating that my 3.5 slots are in a 5.25 slot and can be removed. I was thinking that it perhaps not the harddrive shaking the 3.5 slot but the 3.5 slot shaking the 5.25 slot.

I honestly don't have a clue I was just throwing an idea out there.
 
Uhhhh WHY! You must have a very quiet house. Since I have an Antec 1200, noise can not be a factor due to the 7 fans in the case and 2 for the Swiftech liquid cooling 8( But it is not really that loud. Since I use headphones in game and my Bose speakers drown out even my phone, I good with it.

I have 2 PCs in my room (one my server and one my desktop) and I have my headsets on 99% of the time so I don't really care how loud it is.
 
Are you sure its vibrations and not just motor noise? If you're sure it's vibrations you could loosen the screws a bit and throw a dab of Loctite on the ends to they don't pull out. If it's motor noise then a silencer should help.
 
From what I gather it is not vibration noise that is the problem but the noise of the HDD itself reading and writing to the drive?

This would make sense to me. I also have a 1TB HDD, and I can really hear the drive during r/w. Is that Scythe enclosure only passively cooled? If so it might not be the best choice for that drive. The 1TB HDD's generate alot of heat, and really need good airflow to keep cool.
 
Ya, I don't believe that its vibration or the motor, its just when the HDD is reading and writing is when I can hear it.

and yeah KrzyMoke, my case is pretty quiet so the HDD can be heard more than a normal noise level case.
