Difference Between Bots and Seeding?

Could someone please explain what the difference is between using bots to seed a server and using afk people to seed a server?

I see it says "No Bots" on the server listing for eGO. I don't understand why one is acceptable and one isn't?

This afternoon I was going to play blackmesa. It showed six people on the server. I thought, great, six people scout feast. Cool, this could be fun. Got there and all 6 were afk in spec.

How is this different or "better" than using bots to boost server numbers?

Bots are there to farm achievements usually.

Seeders are there to boost rankings.

The difference is idle spectators don't show fake scores and times like the bots do. So, if someone looks at the server info page it shows people sitting there for a period of time with no score. Most likely meaning they are not playing.

Bots and fake clients lie to players while we do not. There are real people in the server, they just aren't playing.

Plus theres the ability for a seeder to alt tab to TF2, realise someone is joining, and pick a team.

When fake clients start doing that, I'll eat my hat

A seeder represents a motivated individual who is taking time out of his or her day to pop around servers helping them to fill. Bots are just there to falsely increase the ranks. I personally don't seed servers so that the ranking tracker will see more people, I seed because it helps to fill a server faster, and the more hours of the day our servers are filled with people, the more joy we are spreading per dollar. Now, it shouldn't have happened that there were 6 spectators and no players. We usually try to limit it to three or four people, if the server is entirely empty. If there are 6 people actually playing, its not quite as problematic for there to be six spectators.

Honestly, I dont like Seeders Theres nothing more annoying then looking at a server with a decent number of players, to realise they are all AFK, seeding

you can easily see if someone is seeding by looking at the in front of their name, there are rules about that which informs players

If you look at the names it should have the in it. Meaning they are seeding the server.

Right click>View game info. If you see players with the in their name they are seeding.

The problem lies in that very few people join a 0/32 server. And the few who do don't hang around for longer than a minute waiting for someone, usually. So if nobody joins again in that minute, servers is back to 0/32.

a server with 6 specs and 0 players will often randomly bring in 4 real pub players who decided to stay, those 4 will bring in 10 more (over a few minutes hopefully) and then the server is jump started, and any eG can pop in and start kicking out seeders (once the server fills up)

if our servers sat at 0/32 they would never be joined.

long story short, our servers stay full because we dedicate our time, our resources, our computers, our electricity, and our bandwith (all of these things out of our pocket) to keep these servers rockin'.

so, if you see a seeder, Thank him for keeping your Server Safe.

It realy sucks when the people are afk seeding usaly get all excited that im going into a game with a decent amount of people then relises that im the only one actualy moving.. ( so they are anoying in that sence!)

haha, funny progression if read all the way through. i think, cl!ff, you already know the answer to your question :biggrin:

achievements and filling servers would explain why some of the other servers i've been to are fulls of bots. i was wondering what the point was; it's not as if they're tricky to take out, especially if you play spy

I already knew how to tell if someone was seeding, its just VERY disappointing when your looking at the servers, seeing theres 5-6 people in a server *which means you could get a decent small game* to find out they are all seeding, and you have to either sit and wait for others to come, or look else where
