blackmesa

I will say that after being away for months and coming back to find my favorite Blackmesa server had been updated I got excited. However, when I played it I was disappointed (Sorry, dragon). Yes, I'm sure I would've liked it more had I kept playing and gotten more used to it, but that's not what pubs will do.

Concerning spawn camping, from v3 I wanted more exits just because of that pesky heavy and am very glad that more were added. I don't think it needed the what is it five exits? Just two would have done nicely, I would think.

However, what I was most disappointed in was that because of the incredibly intricate and inner-looping vents with even more drop points it made the map even MORE spy-friendly. And that's saying something considering it was a very good spy map in v3. This probably bugs me the most since the spy is absolutely my least favorite class in the entire game. And not just because I don't like to play it.

I personally would love to see v3 come back with minor additions (i.e. one extra spawn exit), but at the same time I won't be spending much time in the servers so my opinion isn't wholly valid.

I'm happy to hear dragonhill is trying to figure out a 2nd exit to spawn. I like the idea of a 2nd exit going to the stairs.

loved v3, v7 came out and i don't want to sound mean here, but i totally hated it.

Now i love it. It is much better then v3. If you want to bring v3 back at least add the ability to get into the upper vents when you use them through the a point.

I would really like for v7 to stay but the server dies everyday at about 11pm and does not full until 3 or 4pm

i played blackmesa almost everyday (and still do), and i never go on any other server. When blackmesa went v7 a lot of people left. There are many people who i haven't seen for months since it changed. I think people just don't give the map a chance. They join, see all the vents, get all confused, then get killed repeatedly then disconnect and never come back. I was quick to judge the map, after a week i was thinking "blackmesa_v3? Who needs it."

ffor the people who love the map, they have stayed for months and i see them everyday. I know deja vu didn't like that map when it came out and i remember him saying he was not going to play v7. Now i see him playing several times a week.

A lot of people hate me because i would constantly spawn camp on v3 as a heavy, sure mass killing is fun, but i really don't like doing it anymore. The spawn room and the area outside needs to stay. Capping b and k is so much more fun with multiple exits, and it's much more enjoyable for the team trying to defend, because at least they have more then 1 option.

Keep v7 layout, trim the vents up a bit, and i'm sure that will fix the problem of it being less popular.

i like both maps. each one is fun. i hated v7 when it came out. now that i know the layout, it is great. i still don't visit point a on the new map cause of the lag on my machine but that is ok. i like it just the same.

I like alot of the improvements in V7 but i still have a few gripes with it.

Stairs: The stairs are simply too big and open, this area sees very little action and so should be alot smaller or more cluttered to make it seem smaller. My advice? turn it into a vent.

Vents: Far, far to complex. Turn it into a little room instead, at the moment you have the two long bits of the vent side by side, turn that into a long little room with maybe some cover to hide behind, and then have a few vent exits off it to the areas. The little room above A (headcrab room)should be just a vent, no-one uses that room as a room to fight it, only an acess point to go through the little one way vent door to the enemy spwan.

Top level: Just get rid of it, the second level/balcony over the top of the final points are AWESOME but you need to make a different acess point to it, a third level is just too much. Maybe a vent with a ladder off the headcrab room that drops down? Aslo the vents above the points (near the tounge zombie) need to go, they again go up to the top level and are connected to the third level of the final points, too high and too big for how little action they see.

And lastly the middle point: Add some platforms at water level on either side, where the four pillars in the water are holding up the elevated platform, put a sqaure platform there just so that people can shoot from that too.

I'd don't know if you think theese ideas are any good (maybe rubbish?) and if you like any of these ideas please pm me as I'd gald to give any further feedback, as mesa to me is a really good map and I love to see each rendition as it gets better :).

The people who think v7 is too complex should just go play on warpath. Warpath has one long path with a couple of side paths.

Blackmesa v7 is a multipath cap map. If you limit the paths and you'll relegate this one to the giant bin full of "seen one seen 'em all" maps.

Honestly, it's the best map that I've played on so far for TF2.

Features of the map:

  • Multiple entries on to each cap point
  • Multiple spawn exits
  • There are no 'safe' rooms except for spawn
  • Requires more teamwork than maps like warpath
  • There are no required classes to win
  • Steve
  • It has big 'ol fans of death!

Hola all,

the issue that was brought up to me was that i changed way too much in v7. these changes may be for the better but in the end made it a different map altogether. what no one has noticed was that all the cap point times were changed along with the map start time. This actually is prob what did it in as the previous times were adjusted to create longer matchs (which keeps players on)

also. a bigger map makes 10 on 10 not as fun. The smaller maps will play into the night better even if a few players drop out. I think this is what happens to warpath also.

i am currently fixing old bugs and doing a final lighting/visual pass on the map as it will be the "final"

i'm still trying to figure out a "side" exit for spawn room...yes, spawn camping can suk

2nd exit will be great:)

v7 is great, some people are just afraid of it, cause they think its scary cause its so big! You just gotta play it and get to know it. I think the whole point of v7 was to create a new map, not to add a little extra to v3. I cant possibly understand that the ratings how dropped after v7 was put on, cause almost everyone i talk to say they love it!

Either way, Blackmesa is amazing. :P
I'd prefer to keep the v7 A, but if not, then I'll make do with what we'll have.
I agree with everyone else though, too many vents. 90% of the time I can walk right through vents with no one noticing, just because they're never used anymore.

I actually like the old A, it was fun jumping down on people there. More fun than... jumping off and away from the point. Whee.

A second door to the spawn would be usefull, It took me a little while on v3 to figure out the bricked up door was just for decoration. Could be made as a new exit?
So far, Gordon Freeman has created nothing. Dragonhill made Blackmesa.

An other thing that could inprove V3, at point A make the drop half as long to the acid....I don't like wasted space..

Edit : or is that to keep rocket/sticky/foceofnature jumping back up?

i'm working on that tonite.

i was worried bringing the water up could reduce frame rate due to many things being in the same horizontal FOV, but i don't think thats the case. Many items from above are still being drawn when players are in the cave area.. i need to fix that

Remember make the steel girders to be passable/take em away!

You the man Dragon. Sounds like this final installation will be fantastic, and a great blend of all the favorite aspects of mesa. Just curious, what sort of time frame can we expect this will be finished? We're all rather excited!

perfection can not be rushed....:cursing:

One way to limit the camping in v7... take away the two ammo packs on each entry/exit where the smaller health bottles are. You can't camp there nearly as well without infinite ammo for the heavies.

That probably won't help because fallen weapons from dead enemies would provide more than enough ammo.

Maybe, making the vents accesible from above would help. Specifically in the common camping areas. I know this would probably be hard to impelent, and would make the map even more confusing, but perhaps adding a smaller vent system above the one we have now, with drop-downs, would solve this problem.

have steve sprout legs and hit the land. have him move around known camping areas.

come on guys, camping and blackmesa go hand in hand.
