I've been an advocate of skilled pyros and believe that some still exist. I hardly ever play pyro but I don't think it's fair saying that they're a n00b class. You could say that about any class, and most people do. I figure the only people that call pyro's noobs are the ones who can't get their 'Revenge' on all the pyros that keep killing them. If they're so noob-ish you shouldn't have any trouble killing them. While I agree that most new players tend to go with pyro, that doesn't mean all pyros are bad players. I'd say the pyro has at least SOME skill if the newbie(W+M1) pyro can be such a skilled player as yourself.

But I digress. This is the reason for the thread before your close-minded hands start typing W+M1.
This video is entitled W+M2

This is a fancy link to a Pyro Compression Blast tutorial guide. It includes a download link to an AVI (800 x 600) or you can watch them on the three youtube videos at the bottom of the page. It's roughly 25 minutes long.

lawl nice one pyros are nubz !0ne!!11two

seriously, as I said in another thread, can't remember when, the only point is to have fun, and not care about people calling you noobs.

I didn't check all the tutorial yet, but it looks pretty complete and well made.

Pyros ftw.

A pyro dominated Goretex.... omg!

Nah but I never say pyro's are noobs, but they are a bit suicidal, I play pyro sometimes too if I got 3 spies constantly hunting me down, it is fun but I mostly just axetinguish people or compressionblast them, just to be annoying :P

Of course, being suicidal is part of the game! I always run expecting to die, but it's so fun!

And yep, a pyro dominated goretex :D

Yeah I was just trollin'(in a nice way! :P ) with that post. I don't generalize any class as noobs. Besides, I play them all!

lols! I wonder what fun loving heavy medic combo that last one was targeted at? Could it also be one that has a huge bounty over his head?

Sorry, while I feel for your argument, I feel obligated to point out the flawed logic. You're assuming that "noob" pyro's synonymous with "bad" pyros. People call them noob not because they're bad, which is certainly one acceptable definition of noob. They call them noob because they're good, too good, and more importantly, too easy to be good at. Just like the AWP in CS is noob, not because it's bad. On the contrary, it's good. Too good. One shot kills ruin the balance by making bad players into average ones, and average ones into allstars.

I'm not siding with either argument for pyro. I like playing pyro, and believe there is a degree of skill involved, as there is with every class. How much skill, though, is up for debate.

Whenever I see a how to play or a frag video I always want go immediately load up TF2 and play that class before I forget. But those were great.

Now this is skill. Does some pretty amazing pyro-reflection jumps.

I tend to play Pyro like it's a slower, sturdier Scout with better close-up attack options and a bunch of very specialized functions. Hence, unless I am ambushing, I assault with shotty first and then finish off with flamethrower. The compressions adds specialized functions which makes the Pyro much more useful to his team and to himself.

I think the main problem a lot of Pyros have is that they think think the flamethrower and burning is all that matters, so they tend to go just Backburner or they use the Flare Gun, both of which greatly reduces your effectiveness in place of other niche specialized functions. We don't necessarily need another ambusher on the team when we've got two Spies running around already, and we don't need the Flare Gun when we've got Snipers doing their job already.

I dunno, this is what has been working for me. I tend to not rely on my compression blast because I've realized that, against smarter Soldiers and Demos, it'll, at best, result in a stalemate and drive the enemy away. Which is useful. But it doesn't accomplish anything. On the other hand, it's infinitely more useful to have the compression blast than try to ambush properly or backwards strafe with the Backburner, hoping the opponent is stupid enough to fall for it.

There are good Pyros out there. The class itself isn't nooby, but the *most* of the people that play it are bad. I used to play it, but I hardly play it anymore because I just like the Soldier's gameplay style. Although back in the day when I played Pyro, I utilized most of the strategies in those videos you've posted, TP. Except the Axetinguisher.

Still strange that in 330 hours as a demoman, I am killed once by a reflected pipe....
*wonders what all pyro's are doing out there*
