Programing Question

I am interested in learning the fundamentals of computer programing. My search of the internet has left me with very little valuable information. I was wondering if anyone could direct me to a good website to read or a good book to buy on this topic. Make sure it's not too advanced. I have very little knowledge on the subject but I would really like to learn this as a hobby. Please only respond if you know what you are talking about. (preferably a computer science major or a programmer)

What language are you wanting to learn?

Uh like the above guy said, you should put this in tech talk, but if you wanna learn programming, it's head first buddy. There is no "easy" way to learn. Real programming is generally college level stuff, if you're lucky your HS might have a course or two on Java or something.

What kind of programming are you getting into? Computer apps? Games? Websites? There are languages geared towards each and knowing what you wanna do will help you pick a language. (C/C++ is *always* a good place to start though)
