is this Video card good for gaming?

Idk about the motherboard and stuff but...

I have a AMD Anthlon 3800 64x2 2.0Ghz dual core processor
1.5 Gb RAM
windows vista.
HP slimline PC.

i really want to know if it will be able to play games like BF2, DODs, INS, and L4D, COD4 all at max or close. those are just about the only games i play. what i meant when i said low profile was, did that mean it wouldnt run games as good, would it do a worse job than if i didnt convert it as the box says.

Call up HP and ask them about your PSU and motherboard, or simply open the case. When you open the case read the sticker on the PSU (small silver box with cables come out) post the numbers here. Also on your motherboard find what type of slots it has such as PCI Express, AGP, or PCI. Google it to find out images of them.

Your video card MUST be low-profile or it will NOT fit in your case. If your PSU isn't powerful enough and you try and run the card you could blow up your PSU and permanently destroy some of your PC parts with it.

definetly think about the 9800 from newegg I LOVE mine and only would upgrade to the new 290.

i have pci express. where can i find out if i need to upgrade my power supply.

yea i agree i wouldnt buy from bestbuy..but the video card is great for games you want to play. But if you want to go to higher quality games that might not be the best.i would personnaly look around at other stores see what deal you can find i picked mine up for around 150$

I found an image of the inside of a Slimline case, and added some colors to show you where to look! The green box shows you what the power supply looks like in your case. The Red Arrow points to the sticker that should show the specs on your power supply. It will read something like the second picture.

What we need to know is the max power (in watts) for the whole power supply, and we also need to know the numbers under each column that includes +12V. If it says +12V1, +12V2, etc, list each one. Those are your 12 volt rails, and different power supplies have different combinations.

That being said, when you open the case, make sure there is room to put a card in. If you are unsure, I would suggest taking a high resolution picture, and posting it here so we can help.

If the inside of your computer doesn't look like the one I posted, look at where the power cord plugs into the back of your computer. On the inside, that is the power supply.

All video card suggestions are pretty much moot until we know that you have space for a card, and what kind of power supply you have.

i have a 8400gs which is similar to the 9400 (8400 is just older), and i can play css at medium at like 70fps and tf2 on low at like 30 fps:glare: but i don't have enough ram to play L4D so i cant tell you how it would do.

ok i have a total of 160 watts :facewall: :glare: ...wow that isnt much... T_T. i contacted HP and they told me not to upgrade my power supply, that it could damage my motherboard...is that true. and anyone know where i can get a decent graphics card to run on 160 watts?

You're not gonna like me, not one bit, but it is probably time for a new computer. If your power supply looks like the one in the picture, you probably can't find an upgraded one.

Video cards that only require 160W are now obsolete. Even a 6600 GT requires a 300W power supply.

ya i am getting to think about a new pc. upgrading my crap pc is to complicated. i mean all i really have too is find a slimline (or just leave it outside my pc) power supply for $50and buy that $60 card and i will be fine, but finding that power supply is difficult ( i saw somewhere that you could expand your power supply without taking the older one out. it adds power to what i already i have...pretty much an external power supply) i really dont believe what HP told me, how could a 400W power supply fry my motherboard when all it requires is 160W, my motherboard would just use what it needs to run, not the entire thing..XD.. but i am thinking seriously about saving up for a new pc...looks like i cant play L4D for awhile...

ya i could use some links and stuff to PC parts to help me build a good system. i mean, my pc isnt that bad, it plays INS fine on medium and sometimes high depending on my resolution. it plays DODs on high and BF2on low. i just want to play L4D and a few other games. what i might do is contact a few graphics card companies and ask them about a 160 watt graphics cards. cause they will be better than what i have right now.

That card does meets the MINIMUM requirements for left for dead, so it should play the game. It is 64-bit memory interface, and GDDR2, so how well it plays it is a big question mark. Before you buy, make sure you have a pci-e x16 slot. The image below should help.

The top is pci-e x16, the bottom is agp. The card you found is pci-e x16. They are not compatible.

i think it would be easier to get a new case so you wouldn't have to worry about space issues. I had a slimline a couple months ago and i ended up tearing it apart because i didn't want to deal with getting worse video cards for more money or looking around for psu's. it's worth it in the end

I too suggest a new case. Also, remember that in L4D the graphic intense parts are when there are 500 zombies, a tank, and molotovs everywhere. This video doesn't show those parts. Not saying it won't work, but it might not.

It could probably be modded to fit on the inside. I might try that sometime, just to see if it works.
