Well the day to begin downloading the Windows 7 Release Client is upon us everyone. The RC is the closest thing to the final product that will be available hopefully this year if not next year. I hear they want to make at least Q4 the time of release which if its anything like the company I work with Quarterly calender it begins around end of Oct. into Nov. and ends around Feb. or Mar. the next year. Just like the beta I would recommend installing this as a second OS or on a spare computer but since this is RC I have been debating whether to just install it as my main OS. Everything data-wise I have is stored off site so I wont lose anything from updating or reverting back to my previous OS. The OS will run on your computer until June 1st 2010. So you have a free version of Windows 7 for a full year. Only draw back is that beginning on March 1st no matter what the OS will shut itself down every two hours. Who knows if a way around this will be discovered. I want to install it as my main OS to really be able to get to know the ins and outs of the OS so I can help people understand it better. Both technical and non-technical alike. I have used a first public beta of Win 7 for just a short time since it is on my spare computer and I am always on my main. Only draw back I see to this atm is hardware/driver support. From the time I tested Win 7 Beta 7000 on my main comp Only issue I had was getting the sound to work. I have a creative labs x-fi fatality sound card. The very first generation that was released.

I will be buying the OS when it comes out a couple months even a year after it is release and reviews are written up, friends and family have used it, and tech. colleagues have tried it out. As promising as Win 7 can be you just may never know.

So my question for all of you. Would you make Win 7 RC your main OS or a Dual boot system? Take into consideration as if you will use it for all you do on you comp. Not just see what its like. But play your games, watch your movie, do you work, etc.

Not unless I hear it's way better than the beta, which is my current main OS. I'll buy it when it comes out though.

Sure I'll give it a whirl as my main OS. All my important stuff is on a separate drive anyways. But with any luck I should be able to get a free (100% legit) version through my schools tech department, after it is released. :P

(Windows 7 Beta) expires August 1, 2009, and bi-hourly shutdowns will begin July 1, 2009. The RC will expire June 1, 2010, and the bi-hourly shutdowns will begin on March 1, 2010. In both cases, you?ll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS and reinstall all your programs and data.

If for no other reason than to extend the test time for the new OS, the RC seems like a good thing.

I was getting ready to reinstall Windows Vista prior to the expiration date; I might go ahead and give the RC a try.

So far, I've had no major complaints with the Win7Beta. The only real bummer I experienced is that Windows 7 records TV in .wtv format, and Vista records in .dvr-ms format. Windows 7 can read both formats, but Vista has issues with the newer one.

I'll buy windows 7 when it comes out, If it's like Vista and Xp in one i will so buy it then :P

I think I'll hold out as long as I can before I need Windows 7. Even then, I'll buy a new hard drive and put it on that one.

I'd love to try it out, but right now I dont have a computer that I could put it on without messing with other people's files.
If I end up getting a new computer this summer, I'm thinking of putting the RC on it straight off the bat to try it out.

I was using the Beta as my primary OS and now will be using the RC (after upgrading) as my primary OS. My only gripe with it thus far has been the fact that Logitech hasn't released any drivers, but that hardly lies on Win7 :P

You forgot to add;
"No, I will not be buying it at all, unless it cmes free with a new PC I happen you buy"
Yeah...

Stevontoast, the poll is refering to a release candidate. So you'd either install it or you wouldn't. I know of no manufacturer that would put an RC OS on a production machine.

I'm running beta build 7000,I haven't felt compelled to upgrade yet...

And btw RC stands for release candidate aka post-beta but pre-final stage, not release client (although technically this is an RC of the client version not the server version :p)

Drbob your right. hehe i knew release client sounded a bit weird. Thanks for the correction. I got both 32 and 64 bit, i guess ill just have to use my spare computer as my main for a while or at least hook it up to my 46-tv but i have no wireless mouse or keyboard. might just get a splitter for my current monitors then :P

I'm using Windows 7 build 7077 x64 as my main OS. I love it and I'll hopefully be doing a clean install of the RC in a bit.

RC = Release Candidate, which means all features are present only bugs need to be fixed.

I went back to XP for some odd reason, but will definitely install Win7 RC when I get the chance to. It's what Vista should have been, and so far, I'm happy with it. Even the beta was pretty *darn* better than Vista ever was, including a lot of drivers being there, right out-of-the-box.

Just so you know, all those drivers were actually Vista drivers. The first beta's were built to work flat off everything that ran on Vista. There might be 7 specific drivers floating around by now though.
