Windows 7 Release Client

Would you install Windows 7 Release Client as your main OS or Dual boot?

I honestly think I'll try it out. Dual boot at first, but if I trust it enough...

Seeing as how 7 improves upon Vista's foundations...is there an actual, rational reason why you like Vista more?

Well, it does have a cooler name, but I suppose something will be done about that one of these days...

as for the guy installing logitech drivers , make sure its for the right thing ie 64 it or 32 bit

Just tried again with the drivers/software for the Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 for 64-bit Windows Vista (I'm running 64-bit Windows 7). Still told me wrong Operating System. But like I said, it's not a big deal, the camera still works well enough, I just don't get as clean of a resolution or all the little extra options with it.

I downloaded it but I am not sure if I want to install it just yet. I have been toying with the idea of reformatting anyways, as I think I have reached the point where I dont want any driver conflicts and I would rather start fresh....

At this point its either going to be to reload vista or go for Win 7.... I just dont know if I should trust using an RC version as my main (and only) OS. And yes, I know, I will have to reformat by next march anyways, which is fine with me, I was planning on getting Win 7 when it came out anyways and doing a fresh install.

A lot of people trusted the Beta as their main OS (though it's not recommended), so the RC is as good as release. If you've already downloaded it, go ahead and install! You'll be glad you did.

Or dual-boot, which is the more logical thing to do. At least you'll have a second OS to fall back on in case Win 7 goes downhill.

I have my drive all partitioned up so I installed it on one of my 50GB drives and I'm currently using it as my main OS.

you dont actully have to re-format most linux distros can resize most types of filesystems including ntfs just use gparted or a openSuSE live cd also im not sure but i think a ubuntu live cd can do that too

i currently have it running as my main :D (xp on a different HDD)

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 it :)

Running it as my main on my Laptop and I plan on putting it on my main machine sometime this summer when I get home.

<--- Loves Windows 7

i think what ill do is either wait til i can get a laptop w/ win xp & put 7 on the backup or get an external drive & put 7 on the external. also since ive heard so much bout the dual boot technology, im gonna have 2 do research if im gonna do that.

I'm running the 64-bit Beta right now, and will probably install the RC over the weekend. I skipped on Vista entirely, but I'm loving Win7 so far. I have XP32 on another HD, but the only times I've booted to that were to have Steam make "backup images" of stuff so that I didn't have to download it all again.

The install of the beta was the easiest Win install I've had yet, and I've probably done it 50-100 times on various hardware. It had decent drivers for everything - even my USB printer worked on the first boot.

It's booting faster than XP for me - probably around 15 seconds after POST. Plus, when it hits the desktop, it's ready to go, unlike XP. XP will show you the desktop, but will churn for quite a while longer while things actually load up.

Here are a couple handy links for people.

1) How to do various upgrades to the RC, including upgrade a beta install to an RC install:

2) Microsoft User State Migration Tool (to copy a users's files and settings off from one computer to another, or to survive a disk wipe, etc)

Running 64 bit RC, really is good for use and everything! I've been using XP x64, this is such an upgrade. I did try Vista x64 once, but that was really aweful for me. Multiple times per hour, every 32 bit program would freeze and become unclosable (Ctrl+alt+del -> close process didn't even solve it) or all web browsers would lose internet, but nothing else, I could still be on Steam, MSN, Xfire etc etc.

So I did the upgrade this morning. Took about an hour (lots of expanding, and rebooting), but almost all automated. No issues, appears to be running just fine, and so far one or two minor issues I had with the beta appear fixed.

The startup churn is one of the biggest things I noticed when I switched back to XP from 7. I hate the whole, it's up, but you can't touch it aspect of XP.

I did the upgrade (straight from beta) yesterday, it worked well. And I figured if anything does go wrong since I did the less-recommended method, I can just take the time and do a fresh install later :)
