What pyro weapons do you use and why?

Flamethrower - Backburner
Shotgun - Flare gun
Fireaxe - Axtinguisher

I'm having a though time deciding if i should use the flamethrower or the backburner, im pretty used to the backburner now, but most of the pro pyro's i talk to say they like the flamthrower cause the airblast is such an advantege.

I also use the flare gun, cause i'm pretty good aimer with it, and switch back on forth with the axes :P

Tell me your opinion! :confused1:
 
I prefer to use the Backburner, accompanied by the shotty and Axtinguisher.
I like ambushing people, hence the Backburner with it's criticals + it's still competent enough to charge head on and make people wet their pants. Shotgun because I can still drain their health when they burn = even if they get away there's a chance of 'em dying anyway. And the Axtinguisher when I'm feeling mean and wanna end a battle with style or die trying it.
 
Highly situational for me.

If I'm soloing and trying to defend our base, I'll tend to find a good ambush spot and chill with the BB, Shotgun, and Axtinguisher. If I'm helping Engineers defend, harassing people in the water, or if I'm trying to help push, I'll generally go for AB, Shotgun, and Fireaxe. If I'm harassing Snipers on battlements, AB, Flare gun, and Axtinguisher.
 
I've fallen in love with the flare gun, just perfect for annoying snipers, or anyone else i can hit at range. I used to use the backburner exclusively but i've switched back to the flamethrower mainly because it's perfect on the defense, still working on the backblast though.

I never used the normal Axe but the axtinguisher is a very effective and humiliating weapon, I give up trying to kill them completely and use that instead.

The backburner is awesome. I love to sneak around the enemy lines and roast 5-6 at a time with this. Its almost an instant kill if you are from the behind. When ever i do attack from the front, against a heavy for example, I run straight at them and jump around to their backside. I usually kill them.
The flare gun is very useful too. Whenever I'm in a large map, I always shoot a few of flares off towards the enemy. Sometimes i get lucky and kill/hit someone, sometimes I just miss. The flare gun is also very useful against snipers who don't see you, and medics who are standing behind enemies.
And the axe. I usually don't use the axe. Most of the time I can get many more times the kills with my backburner, so I don't ever pull out the axe except for events and taunting. I use the Axtinguisher because it just looks cool and for melee only stuff it makes it more difficult to kill the enemy. I like to challenge myself. :P
 
I have all the pyro weapons, but i just use the basic set. The air compression works great when it comes to taking on soldiers. Since they want to keep distance from a pyro i blow rockets right back at them.

the shotgun lets me cause more damage to a target after i lit them on fire and decide to run off.

finally, the axe > the axetinguisher because i hardly use the pyro's melee weapon.

Compression Blast is just too useful to give up for a back-crit. If I want to crit from behind, I play spy.

Shotgun because it works underwater, fires faster than the flare gun, and is just generally more useful. Though I do switch to flaregun sometimes when I need to annoy snipers across the map on 2fort.

Axetinguisher because it's just awesome. It's the best way to take out those heavies who think they're invincible. Also fun to use on snipers who move around too much to use the taunt kill on. There's something satisfying about setting a group of enemeies on fire and axeing them all to death.

Flamethrower; I find it very useful when trying to break up ubers. I agree with Thereven, it's too useful to give up for a back-crit.

Shotgun & flaregun I mix it up, I like them both. It just depends on what's going on in the game.

Fireaxe, just b/c I haven't bothered to switch to axetinguisher. I should get on that. :P

I have everything unlocked, rarely play pyro. I play mostly for airblast because once you get good at it it's amazing to have, can counter a lot of classes and is really funny when you kill someone. I use the fireaxe because I just like meleeing and don't do a lot of burning. I'm pretty weird when I play pyro but its fun.

Flamethrower, flare gun (not so much of the shotty anymore), and axtinguisher (fire axe for the pyro only events). I don't get behind the enemy enough for the backburner to really help, the flare gun is good for fire smiping, and who doesn't love automatic critical hits. And thank you Toilet Pastries for that pyro guide you put up. That Compression blast-axtinguish combo works like a charm. Next job, rocket jumping.
 
I switch between the backburner and the flamethrower, depends on the map, players, etc. etc. I always use the axinguisher, because it's a lot of fun to own a heavy, and I use the shottie because I don't really like the flare gun.

Same, but I gotta say that I love the airblast...killing a soldier or his medic with his own rocket is priceless to say the least...or airblasting a scout or heavy into a lv3 sentry always brings a smile to my face.


Shotty for the same reason...works under water and much quicker than the flare gun.

Axetinguisher, because...well its just awsome is all...crits 100% of the time if they are on fire...A MUST HAVE imo.
 
Yeah, If you don't intend to use the Axetinguisher then its really no point of having it equipped..
Still, i use the flaregun the most, cause Blackmesa is my favorite map and its great to annoy snipers and medics when theyre helpin a heavy! I feel that the backburner and the Axetinguisher really dont fit together cause when you use the backburner its faster just to get around the enemy and kill em'..
 
Flamethrower becouse of the airblast ability, Shotgun for underwater combat and the axtinguisher to get some easy melee kills.
