A few months ago i reinstalled windows and decided to use my 10,000 RPM hard drive as the main one. When i installed windows it reassigned the other hard drive to the F: position so basically my setup looks like this:

Local Drive (C:)
dvd-rw (D:)
dvd(E:)
New Volume (F:) <<<< (would like to move to the (D:) position)

My question is am i able to reassign my other hard drive to the D position, and how do i do it? :confused1:

You need to go to your start menu, then administrative tools and click on computer management.

When the computer management program opens up you should see disk management on the left hand side. then that will pop up a list of all your drives, you should disk 1, disk 2, cd rom, etc.

right click on the names of the drives you want to change then click on change drive letters and paths. once the little window pops up click the change button, you should then see another little window and ont he right will be a drop down list. you can then change the drive letter there.

A couple things to be careful of. First, you may need to change your drives to some dummy letters first, reboot, then assign them to the ones you actually want them to be on, then reboot again.

Another thing, is that if you have any programs installed to the hard drive you are changing, they will stop working if you change the drive letter, you will need to reinstall them... if you are just storing files there, you should be fine though.

**I am looking at the Vista version of computer management, nto sure if you have vista, or are on XP, and im not sure if the versions are different. Also, Im pretty sure you need to be on a windows account that has administrator priveleges.
