I've been looking at the army national guard as a stepping stone. I went up to MEPS 2 weeks ago in hopes of joining the Air Force, but they gave me a bs contract so I didn't sign.

thoroughly go over all details. air force takes care of their members best, but if you want combat... go infantry.
 
Well the thing was is that the air force is full right now, so I would have to go DEP which isn't all too bad. However, they couldn't lock me into an MOS. Basically I would go to basic training and while I'm there roll a dice. Whereas the army, army reserve and army national guard can all lock you in before you even go up to MEPS. I'm going to school for clinical psychology, and the army and the airforce are the only braches which offer a mental health care apprentice MOS.
 
in my opinion you should roll the dice with the airforce or try going navy. they both have the best technology and training as well as more funding than the other branches, you will come home safe and be worth more money when you do. The army has the worst training and technology. You work with 20 year old crap and your worth almost nothing without additional training when you get back. Do yourself a favor and play it safe.
 
We all know that if you join the coast guard, the only "work" that you do is sit on your boat and fish all day. :P
 
Haha, sorry to steal the thread, but I feel that I should respond to Walker.

With the particular MOS that I want only the Army and Airforce offer it, furthermore, they train together at Sheppard's AFB. But as of right now I'm going to college for free anyway, so I just need to do some volunteer work along with school and I should be working in a state hospital before I know it.
 
Well if I were you I would still go Airforce, they can offer you the training and experience you will need to make a good living when you get out. Its also the experience of a lifetime and will change your life and the way you see the world. If you can't get the MOS you want when you sign there is always a chance that you can change if if you re-up. Alot of times the military will do almost anything for you within reason to get you to re-sign with them. So in my opinion sign a short 3 year commitment, and if you like it, sign another 5 year and ask for your MOS and I bet you can come out of the military before your 30 with a friggin Masters Degree in whatever you want, plus the experience and training to make you a invaluable asset wherever you land.
 
Played CS 1 starting in about 1997 until about 2007 (when I finally accepted the fact that CS 1 is dead). Went through a period of about a year of questioning whether any game in HL2 mod would ever match the impact CS had. Came across INS and played it for a few months while it was still in its first beta version and pretty much gave up on source altogether. Re downloaded INS in Dec of 08 and found eGO. INS had come a long way from the first version and I was hooked. All I could ever hope for was a game I like with a community that strives for full servers.
