allright guys i finaly got good at spys and its one of the funnist things io have ever played i realy like it so any tips on playing it i allready kno the basics but any more advance tips will help ty

There are lots of posts and guides on spy and other classes already on our forums. Try searching for them using the search function in the upper right of the forum page. Help keep the forums clean for everyone, or before you know it, a weird looking Native American will show up with a tear slowly running from one eye.

what types of tips do you need, and how many hrs played as spy do you have.

For instance can you pull off a stab and sap...even while standing on top of the engi's head?
Do you know how to stalk, leap stab, 180 stab, stair stab?

i have played about 3 hours total and got over like 97 backstabs

i think you need a bit more practice than that. Try and work on all the diff types of stabs...heres a vid on advanced spy play. Heres the vids that helped me get better...hope they help.

There is a big difference between watching them and learning them...learn them and all I can say is practice practice practice. Ive got about 500hrs as spy now and still dont know all the ropes.

Yeah, i had a little over 400 hours before i reset my stats. Spy is a constant learning experience.

Go to "Character Loadout" menu then click on the stats tap at the top and then there should be a reset stats button lying around in there.

whats a good map to play spy at fort2 is being boring ive played it and there is alot of trigger happy pyros =P

2fort is not exactly a spy map imo...come to valve maps you get a great choice of maps to spy on. Its the best server for spies by far imo.

Neither, go valve maps.

2fort and dustbowl are playable, but way to linear if your just starting spy. If you play valve maps you also learn the layout of a lot more maps.

I think part of the reason I never got really good at spy is because i'm just not fast enough at putting on a costume and don't like to micro manage in tf2... i'm sure it would come with practice but I just don't enjoy it enough I guess.

also, i don't think 2fort is much of a spy map. too many places to get caught in the open and in addition, people always spy check in there.

I would also like to suggest Badwater Basin. Great spy map in my oppinion.
It's a fun map no matter what class you play, though.

All these professional spies emphasize stabbin' way too much. You'd be much better off practicing getting from one point to the other without being spotted.

Try practicing getting from your own respawn to the enemies' intel room without getting noticed on 2fort. Don't try to stab or sap, just get from one to the other.

Once you can do that reliably, getting into position to stab becomes easy.


The hardest part about spy is moving around. You may be invisible, but that doesn't mean a thing if you bump into people.




...also, spies aren't all about killing. Learn to take out sentry guns, dispensers, and teleporters. Report on enemy positions and where they're heading. Your team will love you for it. You just won't have a giant score to show off to people.

Yes, this map in particularly was what got me started really. I got so many big chain stabs for the first time that I was hooked and havnt stopped playing spy since. Also you should of been there this morning with me and captain calle, you could of seen the damage I was doing to the other team. There are so many spots to hide and strike from. Try it out sometime.

iVE STRESSED THIS A TON, POSITIONING IS KEY IMO.

Also you should of been there this morning with me and captain calle, you could of seen the damage I was doing to the other team.

I was happy to have Frisky on MY team. He would have rocked me otherwise!
While I was there, Frisky MVP'd like three times with more than 20 points ahead of the second best player (which has been me a few times? I'm not even sure anymore). Eventhough I wasn't doing a good job myself as a spy today, I had fun. And that is all that matters. Fun.
Badwater just is fun to play. Also, if all fails, play another class. Badwater is a great map for every class.
Yes, I do love Badwater Basin!
