I'm liking it so far. Hopefully Valve won't give in to all the whiners. People really have no patience nowadays.
they will give in just like they did with the sandman. epic tears are flowing now.

Firstly, before speaking my mind, let me address this one tiny tiny thing that some seem to have gotten wrong.
This. The achievements are still there. If they make you a better player, do them! Evolve! Kick some butt! Don't blame Valve for taking off the milestones and not "forcing" you to do the achievements and evolving. The achievements are still there and you should do them if they improve you as a player.
And now for my own opinion, which has been going round like a merry-go-round.
First I loved it, after getting nothing I hated it - and now I love it again after reading Valve's blog-post about it.
The more you play, the more items you get. A way better system in theory than achievementfarming. They still have a few kinks to work out but after that it IS a good system. It IS - in my opinion - better than the milestones.
Today, I played approx. an hour of Instant Respawn 2fort before going to do the dishes, and I got 2 items. So clearly they have fixed something comparing to the fact that yesterday I played nearly 10 hours and all I got was an Axtinguisher, Bonk! and yay, Ambassador.
What this means is if things go the way I hope, I'll have Huntsman in no-time. Well, if not. Then you'll be seeing me sitting in Blackmesa next spring cursing at my backpack full of useless items.

New system is pathetic
It is luck and no skill
Now people can "find" items and get upgrades faster
Hell, I don't mind if n00bs get these upgrades because it might be hard for them to unlock achievements
But I feel sorry for the highly skilled ones who might have unlocked all the TF2 achievements but not gotten the new weapons...
It is good if you don't like playing a certain class but want the weapons because you can find them, other than that...

I enjoy it and tired of seign those posts on the forums with "i'm quiting tf2 beacuse of this update".
If you are quiting tf2 beacuse of this update you didn't really enjoy it that much anyway! i mean instead of 30 minutes on a achievement server it might take a few days but then you get much more time to try out the new stuff you get.

Maybe i'd like this system a bit more if it actually gave me ANYTHING. I hope this will be fixed soon, this is lame.

I got the sandman after about 5 minutes of play. Since then I've got nothing.
I don't mind the new system much. I don't have to worry about headshotting 5 other snipers just so I can use the hunstman. This way I can just play the game and have fun.
The reason everyone is getting duplicates is because we'll be able to trade them eventually. For now just delete them.

Hate it. I need them to stop giving multiples until you have all of the uniques. I have:
2 Backburners
2 Flare Guns
2 Axtinguishers
2 Blutsaugers
2 Kritzkriegs
2 Ubersaws
etc.
Now if I could dual wield ubersaws, I'd be happy. But this is just annoying.

Personally I'm fine with the new system. I don't know why so many people get so worked up or angry about it saying it's "broken" or "flawed". Just play the game and have fun. If you get something, great. If you don't, you're still having fun right? If not, you probably should be playing another game to begin with.
What's wrong with having a little luck thrown into the game? If you want to work for an item, you're playing the wrong game. Go play an MMO. Honestly none of the unlockables are that amazing anyway. The standard weapons are still just as good if not better.
Also, the patch hasn't even been out a week. With the old system, they never intended all the achievements to be done in less than a week so why should we expect to have all the unlockables already with the new system?
All this stuff they've added since the game came out over a year ago has been free, not to mention the game is dirt cheap. As far as I'm concerned they can do whatever they want with the game. If they are charging us for it, well that might be a different story but for now I say we just be happy that they keep doing all this stuff for free.

I'm guessing once they patch it (fix the drop rate) and add in the trading option, everyone will have there unlocks pretty quick. Old players will be happy, because they just will play the game and won't have to worry about it and New players will be happy because they can start playing with some new toys. Really, I could care-less about the weapons -- im content with the old ones, and i'm just having fun and have already got 3 unlocks for just playing in 2 days. I'm really mad at all the people comparing this to a MMO, MMOs you WORK for your gear and it is usually a upgrade to what you have and you have a advantage, this is just playing the game and getting some side-grades.
VALVe knows our concerns and are going to tweak the system, eventually everyone will stop complaining and realize it has become a better system.
