So yesterday i tried to change the aspect ratio in CS:S from 4:3 to 16:10 to see if it would look less distorted, so as usual the screen goes dark the audio loops and BAM the audio loop stop and returns to normal but the screen doesn't come back on and just stays in standby mode not displaying a picture. if i move the mouse around i can hear the usual clicking of the menu, so i know the game is running, but the only way out of this is to press the power button. I tried deleting local content on steam and reinstalling CS:S, but that didn't work, same problem. i tried switching form DVI to VGA, that didn't wok either. and finally i tried deleting all the program files and reinstalling CS:S

please help me, as a member of CS:S division this is rather important.:crying:

Sounds like your monitor is not big enough to do 16:10
I would recommend just going back down to 4:3 as long as you can play
Your video card might also be a problem... MIGHT I am not sure

Sounds like your monitor doesn't support 16:9 widescreen resolutions or your videocard doesn't; eitherway it sounds like your computer simply can't do widescreen with its current setup.

To remedy, I believe you can do this
Right click Counter-Strike: Source on your Steam Games list
go to Properties
go to Set Launch Options
type in: -w 800
Click ok, yaddayadda, start Source
in theory that'll force it to 800x600 resolution and let you play.
