Can You Hear It?

[Just thought this was really interesting] Its a really annoying mosquito sound, but generally only people under the age of 25 can hear it.

We've all heard that human hearing extends covers the frequencies from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Hz is the abbreviation for Hertz, meaning cycles per second. It's true nominally that we human beings can hear these frequencies, but that's under optimal conditions. For most of us, the highest frequency we can hear gets lower and lower every year of our adult life. This effect can be worsened if we listened to loud music often when we were younger. BY the time we're 30 years old, most of us can't hear anything higher than about 14,000Hz, if that.

Since most adults [teachers] can't hear it, some teenagers use it as a ringtone. Err.. not that im encouraging to use this as a ringtone so that teachers cant hear it.. its just an interesting fact :blush:

The sonic frequency of Mosquito Ringtones is so high that most adults old enough to have a child with a cell phone can't hear it. Kids and teens have no problem with the high pitch of Mosquito Ringtones. Not only can most parents not hear the ringtone, but most teachers will have no idea when a student's cell phone is ringing with a Mosquito Ringtone while nearly every student in the class will hear it loud and clear.

i'm 14, almost 15 and i can hear it .. can you hear it?
 
Oh wow thats annoying.. and yes i mean the sound, not the fact that older people cant hear it... If my phone rang like that i'd have a terrible headache!
 
I'm 16. I can hear all the way up to 19,000Hz. But I'm blind as a bat. Lose some and win some I guess?

Its annoying as hell... but i hear it.
 
i think i hear it it is high pitched and makes my head hurt. not sure though
 
Well that sucks, I can't hear it. and I'm 16. Well maybe i could if my little brother wasn't watching TV, but it still is unlikely.

EDIT: what i really don't get is that I don't ever listen to my music too terribly loud. I guess 6 concerts will do that to you.

Maybe thats your problem? i spent a good majority of my life as a rocker/headbanger/amateur explosives hobbiest (before the whole "National Security" thing went nuts)

and i can hear it...

well i will say that while I can't hear the extremely high sounds, what I can hear I can hear really well. I'll hear the mousetrap snap sometimes... and I hear some things that aren't actually there occasionally.
 
A lot of people at my school do actually use this as their ring tone and I want to punch them for it because it is SO annoying.
 
im 35 and can hear it clearly.....i dont think adults cant hear it, we as adults ignore it....
