Edge Gamers Organization TF2 Sniper guide.

I'm not saying that your guides didn't take time to write, nor am I saying you didn't write them. I am saying that they are inaccurate, often misinformed, and aren't indicative of a player who has played the class enough to write an effective guide on it.

Sniper guide nonwithstanding, I have played enough Soldier and Engie to know that your match-ups are rubbish. The Demoman's only a difficulty of 2/5 against the Soldier? What are you smoking? Engie engaging Scout at all? Any decent Scout would destroy an Engie. Medic's aren't a challenge for the Engie? That's asking for an uber-sawing.

And I keep mentioning that the TF2 wiki has all this and more because...it does, meaning nobody needs guides that, while holding a few interesting tidbits, also carries lots of inaccurate information. A lot of the guides just seems to be theorycraft on your part and not based on experience.

And I don't mean to be mean either. I'm just being truthful so you don't get your ego carried away. Stuff like "Do not post on other sites without my permission" for something so small and consisting of universal traits is a mark of a pompous author.
OK this is turning into a fight between you and me and the forums are not a place for that. I politely ask for a lock.

Well, if its turning into a fight, maybe you could stop fighting?

This isn't fighting at all. You asked for me to rate and comment on your guide. That is exactly what I am doing. Because it's negative comments it's suddenly a fight?

My point exactly. You know what, just add me to steam and we will talk there. Steam nick: Edeldragon
No, it's not that DRaGZ. I am not that childish. Every single guide i wrote was thumbed down by you. Just take a look at the poll in the engie guide and you will realize that those texts i put a lot of time in actually helped somebody and that's why i am writing them, to help people. And some guys just don't appreciate that. You can clearly see that in my previous guides some people thumbed them down but they made suggestions on how to improve them and most of those suggestions were implemented into the guides. What you are doing is just spiting on my work and not telling how to improve it. So please let's not take this any further on the forums cos the forums are not the place for this kind of conversations. We have Steam/MSN for this stuff.

The problem of writing "class-general" guides is that there is too much to cover that 8 paragraphs can't express.

Many good guides cover only specific topics and they are longer than this guide.

Just my 2 cents

Note: Ambassador is like a sniper rifle, that you can fire close range, so I say it's for medium range

You can critise someones work by wording it such as "i disagree" or "I don't belive that personally" rather than "its rubbish" or "you are wrong". To cheese's defnece the razorback is not a total waste of time at all. The idea that the ambassador makes it useless doesn't make any sense. Ok suppose your playing on pipeline in the stage with the tunnel in the bottom. I'm surrounded by 10 teammates and im a sniper. Timeline one withour razorback: Spy stabs me and instantly claoks or uses deadrigner to get outta there. I'm dead. Timeline two with razorback: spy trys to use ambassador or tries to backstab me, instaly revealing himself, nearest demo stickies his ass, or medic saws his face off. The razorback ins't suppsoed to save you when your on your own and standing still, its supposed to a) buy you time in some situations or agaisnt bad spies and b) stop them from using hit and run when your in a group of allies.

And another peice of adivce, find a wall or obstical to hide behind, full zoom in still behind then use direction keys to edge out, snipe then edge back in.

Also don't forget a full charged shot to the head kills a heavy being healed or not, and often if being healed they move slow as they have thier gun wound up.

If you want constructive criticism, here's some:

As I said before, I'm not qualified to write a Sniper guide, so I will not comment on that.

My point is, why would a Spy even backstab you when you have the Razorback? The only positive I can see for it is that, in crowded conditions, you're no longer a prime target. But, more often than not, the Sniper is more-or-less by himself taking shots (unless he's a Huntsman Sniper), in which case three pops from the Revolver or two good pops from an Ambassador would do ya in.

Oh, and if you're stuck in a Sniper war, the "sneaking out behind a wall" thing doesn't work well on a decent Sniper waiting for you to come out (Ketchupmoose has gotten me many a time this way). If you know the other Sniper is waiting for you, it's best to run out to throw his aim off and headshot him quickly.

Can't argue with this, this is some costructive criticism. I haven't answered some of these and you should have commented this guide just like you did the previous ones. Good posts. Guides will be improved after i get back from training.

Well you do have the ping advantage if you come from cover, as the message that you have come out of cover has to travel to their pc, while if they are standing still you instantly know where they are. Also they are standign still, so you know where they are exactly, yet they don't know when you are gonna come out from behind the wall. And i have faced off against good snipers before, and I'd welcome a friendly sniper war on any server with you :P

I would get owned. I suck with the Rifle, especially during a Sniper war. Unless I'm angry and I want revenge. Then I just take my revenge shot and then run away!

The Huntsman was designed for suckers like me. :P

For beginners I suggest:
Spot shot/reflex reaction shot. Basically, if you know your reflex time to click the mouse, aim at a position of high traffic (or just in space in general). Basically wait for your enemy to pass into your cross-hairs and click to blow his head off. Essentially, you are letting your enemy come into your crosshairs as he passes a high traffic area.

(examples: Coming out of spawn on any map. Dustbowl first stage 2nd point - the gate at the top near the point. Payload maps near the cart. Aiming at high traffic areas will maximize your opportunity for kills.)

I would disagree with this advice--my reasoning comes from both my experience as a sniper and more importantly actual skeet shooting. When shooting skeet (basically just hitting a moving target) the most important thing to do is keep your gun moving with the target and even after you pull the trigger. If you try to time your shot when the target passes through your aim you will miss 90% of the time because your reflexes just arent fast/exact enough ESPECIALLY as a beginning shooter/sniper.

I would instead suggest that you wait, aiming at areas like these and adjust your aim when a target presents himself using the "wipe over their head" aiming method with your crosshair.

This being said, if it works for you then use it--everyone does have different stlyles.

watch any CEVO or CPL Tf2 sniper and you will see NO good sniper follows the target, its all reflex reaction shots to the head because you dont have time to follow your shot, especially against another pro caliber sniper, you will have your face rocked before you know it

in Skeet shooting this would work fine (the targets aren't shooting BACK at you)

here you have to worry about getting killed, in skeet shooting, you dont

Why would a sniper be standing still? It's madness.

I just thumbed through he whole thread. Longer response incoming in the near future. Maybe. :P

I actually dislike the whole spy+ambassador=sniper connotation. The ambassador has no scope, therefore you aren't quite as accurate over longer distances. Not to mention if you count the range in, after one shot you have to wait much longer with the ambassador to have another accurate shot at killing someone than with the sniper rifle. Plus, the sniper rifle has more raw power in it.

I don't really have trouble hitting players at range, I was popping snipers in the head from across the middle section (I think point A?).

That and sneaking in with a C&D and ending their lives up close. Nero would understand what I'm talking about.

DRaGZ, thank you for helping to improve two of my guides. I've added a special thanks part and the FAQ part. And your name is in the special thanks part.

I guess I should have specified...this is just a stratagy for new snipers (I completely agree that the flick shot is the way to go, but that takes time to get good at). This is also a decent stratagy for killing classes besides snipers--especially if you are in a position which cannot be counter-sniped.

Huh. I can't seem to kill anything with it. Not that I have trouble hitting things, it's pretty accurate. I'm just saying that it doesn't have the power that the sniper rifle does. It's nice for psuedo-sniping, if you need to take a quick long-range shot. Not so great for quick kills. Doesn't really matter to me though, I prefer to stab them in the back. It's more fun :P

I think its a really good guide. Keep up the good work :)

How many of you guys play on Black Mesa? I dont think Ive seen many of you people playing.

But anyways. Playing as a sniper on Black Mesa, I see a couple types of snipers. You have Huntsman with Razorback, Huntsman with Jarate, Sniper with Jarate, Sniper with Razorback. Rarely do I see a Sniper or Huntsman with the SMG. Razorbacks are good if your going to camp in a heavily spied area (and you'd be surprised how many spied try to backstab me when I have Razorback). But I think you might have forgotten something in your guide.

Sniper Vs. Spy. (For the lone Sniper in all of us)
Its not a hidden fact that Spy is a great counter to the Sniper. Spy is great while people aren't looking their way, while Sniper is great while having their backs turned. So to keep the Spies off you back, you'll need the Razorback. But that just prevents them from backstabbing you, they can still shoot you. One thing most Spies don't think of is the sound of their uncloak. Dead Ringer having the loudest uncloak, which isn't good for sneaking up on Snipers, so they use the Cloak and Dagger. Cloak and Dagger has a very, unique sound. So while having the Razorback most Spies will still uncloak near you, but instead of backstabbing you, they will try to shoot you. A quick counter is: Having good headphones. If you can hear the uncloak before they are fully uncloaked, they will be taken by surprised by you coming after them. It only takes about 2-3 hits to kill a Spy with your Kukri. Razorback is the bait, you are the trap. Razorback + Kukri = dead Spy :)
