when someone hits me with jarate, instead of the screen going a little yellow, mine goes completely white, and i can't see anything until it wears off. i have to point myself (i hope) towards my base and run and jump and strafe trying to make it safely while i can't see anything at all. i assume my video card is finally unable to handle the newest addition to the game (my card is awful). any suggestions other than that? all my graphics settings in-game are turned down, if i remember correctly.

System spec should be posted
Should be in tech help
Seems like an odd thing tbh
I haven't ever been hit off jarate so I don't know what it is meant to look like, but I doubt it is white...

I would make sure you have the most recent drivers for the card. If that is a no go you may be right about the card finally meeting its limit. :(

Check your drivers for your card, plus having all your settings down may be the cause for your problem.

If you have dxlevel 70 added to your launch options you won't get nice shaders at all, if your card is a directx 8.0 native card you might not be able to handle the "nice yellow jarate" effects ;p...
Point being, old cards and low settings = bad graphics. Plus Valve doesn't develop for crappy cards they all run like the GTX290s in quad-SLI... get a new budget card or something I just got a 4650 for $50 and it runs like a champ for the most part.

Having your settings all the way down isnt the problem. I have mine like that, directx 8 had a similar problem before, but its since been patched. On the off chance that you have it set to run on DirectX 7, then thats your problem. If all of those are not true, remove your graphics drivers, then go to your GPU makers web site and re-download the latest drivers.

strangely enough, last night while playing pipeline, everything worked fine. my card is an nvidia geforce go5800, 64mb; a little better than a piece of junk at this point. since i have a laptop, i can't replace it without replacing the motherboard as well, which means new laptop, basically. the driver is the most recent one i could hack to accept my card, because toshiba hasn't released a driver update for the card for a decade. i can't recall the directx version, and i'm in ubuntu right now so i can't check. i'm fairly certain it's at least 8. for now, everything seemed fine last night, aside from the fact that i get booted for "running out of paging file," although my paging file is huge. i'm pretty sure it's all related to the card.

iirc the entire FX5--- series are DirectX 8 native cards.
Still I'm surprised, TF2 should be able to do a yellow fade effect just fine. I imagine its akin to the CS:Source flashbang, except yellow? Which my old FX5200 could render just fine.

No its not like the flashbang, its like you put the bioshock water effect on, but turned it yellow.

I'm pretty sure its your card.

me too :( fortunately, i haven't had the problem since the first day, so perhaps it has resolved itself through magic :w00t: makes sense.

also, i'm going to open 'er up and clean out the dust. helped a bunch last time i did it (increased air-flow means less overheating), and will probably improve the situation with my card a bit. i suppose this thread can be closed.
