Does Valve = Evil?

Hey everybody, theres been a lot of commotion lately surrounding Valve, with the leak of the Meet The Spy video, Left 4 Dead 2 milking us for no good reason, and the constant pondering of WHY DID THEY SPEND THE TIME ON L4D 2 RATHER THAN HALF LIFE?!

Well, meet Robin Walker. One of the higher ups of Valve. He REALLY cares about the community, HONEST! Thats why he decided to go on a rampage and fire various Team Fortress 2 devs, As well as Left 4 Dead Devs because someone pushed the Meet The Spy video out the door and no one is naming names.

Now some of you may take this as a "joke", but after seeing the Left 4 Dead 2 trailer I think Valve has an inability to make a dark joke. So I wouldn't be surprised if this was true as well. Maybe Valve is tearing away its shell and showing the dark, slimy side we never knew.

I ask you people, whats going on with the gaming industry these days?!

You're...joking right?

I highly doubt that anyone actually got fired. It was more than likely an honest mistake, one that the TF2 Devs turned into a joke. Including punishing someone for it. The Devs have a sense of humor, it's obvious with ways they've responded to the community in the past.

As for L4D2, while I'm saddened to see the content being released as a second game, it's understandable. They're a company after all, they do need to make money. They have released SO much content for free. They're probably currently one of the most customer-friendly companies available. Just because they're making a game cost money, doesn't turn them evil overnight. They may not be innocent, but in the gaming industry, they're certainly damn near the closest thing to.
 
Valve =/= Evil, Valve = A Company

Valve has real employees, who have real mouths to feed. Personally, 50 bucks for another L4D is pretty steep, but no one says you have to buy the game. You just move on with your life. Im sure Valve will kick out another franchise that will make you forget this whole fiasco.
 
I'm not gonna go ranting on about how I absolutely love Valve, most of you already know that. If you didn't - now you do.

Why did they leak the Meet the Spy-video? Because they wanted to tease us. The leak was most likely not even on purpose judging by the achievement they granted themselves on the spy's achievement-page but it made for a good joke and a teaser to the community none-the-less.

Half-Life then, they ARE working on it. Much like they split teams to work on Left 4 Dead and TF2 Scout(?) update. Ok, the scout update was kind of a failure but it was still good in its ways. If they work on two games at the same time doesn't mean the end of the world - it means that one is going to be Valve-good and the other one just good. Or then it'll suck. Hopefully the one that is junk is L4D 2, because I don't want to see HL2 ruined at the very end.

Honestly? No-one got fired. Valve won't go there. If you read the blog post you WILL see the humour included in it.

In closing, if you want to see Valve as the evil of the gaming industry by reading their blog posts and finding hidden meanings - you probably will. If you want to see a gaming company that loves its community, does the best it can for it and makes up for mistakes one way or the other, you probably will too.

Just a correction here, Valve did not ever split their teams to work on L4D and TF2. The two games are made by entirely different studios. Neither team left from one game to work on another at any point to the best of my knowledge.

I do love Valve. But we shall see how they handle this. I know it's a company and they have mouths to feed, but there is no way they are hurting bad enough to need to sell a full price game so soon. They probably make enough money to keep both studios open just from the third party sales on steam.
 
There's a lot of recent L4D2 info circulating on the net, and I just don't feel like searching right now :P...do we know if the L4D2 will be free - full-price - marginally priced yet? I watched the trailer; honestly, it looks about the same graphics wise, just new maps / characters etc...

Valve's always been outstanding when it comes to taking care of gamers (how much FREE content have they released for TF2???, and how many FREE mods do they offer via steam? Insurgency is awesome and worth $; does anyone know of other gaming conglomerates that routinely give updates (not just 'patches') for free?

Do these numbers not seem ridiculous? How can you NOT pick up on the sarcasm?
 
also, Valve didn't purposely leak meet the spy

1. the same panel that "leaked video" was in in MTS had been different before
2. Valve even published the "Welcome to the internets" achievement which read: Fail to understand what PRIVATE means on youtube

it was leaked because the iPhone youtube ap had a bug which let you see private videos, and those same iPhones can download + upload the vids as well
 
no valve didnt prurposely leak the spy someone in valve leaked it
 
Think of it this way:

If Valve was evil:
  1. They could easily upload viruses to our computers
  2. eGO Wouldn't exist

Valve IS NOT EVIL! Valve never will be evil! They're gamers just like us, accept their minds, well most of them, think in the language of C++. Others make game models and textures for a living. They're nice enough to provide Steam for free! WoW Cost $15 a month! Think of those prices!

All and all, Valve =/= Evil

Valve = Nice = Corn.
Now, let's eat some corn.

This "thread" is basicly pointless, debating it on problems of producing games is not going to make them change there ways.

You can kick and scream all you want.. its gonna happen.

As for my "statement" is irrelvent, I was just laughing about the thread title and responded as such.

I think this thread produces light on people who have never dealt with a gaming company such as Valve. And it also gave some strong statistics that could be used for future reference.
 
This thread is just turning into an argument.

Some people replied sarcastically and this is getting out of hand.
