For the first few weeks or so of the update, I saw that they removed Milestones in an attempt to stop Achievement farming.

Sadly though 'Idle Servers.' where made to counter this.

Soon after our milestones were brought back.

I can say the TF2 team is probably kicking themselfs in the ass over this.
I think achievement farmings cheap, its low and ruins the game.
They released a new thing that grants trading of collected unlocks to players whom don't have it yet.
But the problem being EVERYONE is farming or going to Achievement mod servers ruins the porpose for that update.
For example: I have four Ambass's, Two flareguns and two bonks.
If anyone wanted them I could trade them, there was a guy wanting the Ambass for ages and now tells me he got it using an achievement server.

How am I to trade with people who cheat the unlocks?
They also granted things like Hats, soon they MAY be doing new outfits and all that Jazz.

I am grateful for the Tf2 teams work.
Sadly in the past I have ONCE used an achievement server... And I regret it.
It made the game no fun, and no longer have I used it.

Honestly, I think the TF2 Team is gonna have to find a way to stop the farming its really awful.
It stomps on the updates they are trying to bring out and makes the game vary boring.

I am aware that eGO does not allow farming, that in which I am happy to know.
Thank you eGO for that. :D

What you guys think?
Any ideas you think they could come up with that could stop these farmers?

As far as I understand eGO allows farming - just not in the servers.

They don't care where you get achievements as long as you're not blatantly sitting in spawn eating 100 Sanviches for the achievement.

As for stopping the farming... there's not much you can do with the current system. They'd have to change how the rewards are handed out and so far the latest attempt was an utter failure.

On the bright side... I found the Engi hat last night and it's awesome! Too bad I don't play engi too often, haha.

At least you no longer get "Vavle **** you I've played for 500 hours and not one achievement" spamming the server.

You don't really need to farm this last batch of achievements. I got 3/4 of them within the first week.

Much easier than all the previous ones.

They made the latest milestones so Uber easy to achieve, you really don't need to farm them this time. I think its like 11 achievements to unlock all 3 milestones for the sniper.

Run server farming checks and ban em. simple.....

I have no reference for this but I don't think it's against any rule to farm achievements.

At the end of the day I think it comes down to the player.

There will always be those who farm achievements one way or another and there will always be those who prefer to play legit and earn their rewards.

I don't think it's up to Valve to try and enforce this because on one hand you're ruining the challenge for those who want to earn their reward and on the other you ruin it for those who just want to items to play the game with.

I think it's fine the way it is in that you can choose how you want to get the rewards.

Let others decide for themselves just as we have.

I know I like having all the items to play with and I've done a combo of playing normally and getting some and then going to pick up a few extras I needed with a friend in an empty server on a couple of occasions.

I am very happy that I have never touched an achievement server. It feels great knowing that I've earned every single unlock rightfully. Now, it does suck that this trading game will not be very effective considering everyone has everything pretty much. But hey, whatever :)

Idiot you make a VARY good point +1 to you.

But the problem as major stated is what bothers me.

Everyones gonna be collecting things and its gonna be built to trade with others.
How are you gonna do that if everyone cheats them.
Its a spit on of TF2s work. :/

They put it in to give players a chance at the stuff they didnt get yet, and everyone went and just ruined it.

They can't use the system if everyone chooses to cheat them, it would of been an utter waste of time ya'know?
I bet TF2 feels bad since they put so much time into it and everyone chooses to cheat.

I sympathize with your situation Lucifer.

However, chances are, by the time the trading system is active you'll have most of the unlocks.

And if not, you'll be working toward them. Not to mention needing only 16 or 17 total achievements for all 3 new items isn't difficult at all.

I think people will really be trading for hats, not so much weapons. A lot of people I know of have 4-5 of everything, or at least of a couple new items.

I'm willing to bet, especially between eGO members, they'll just give you what you need for free.

I know I have duplicates of some stuff and I'll give any of it away to another eGO member or pub who I have a friendship with.

Who knows? This may work out in the exact opposite way to expect!

I agree with Major Payne on this. Maybe if Valve incorporated a limit on how many trades you can do within a given timeframe (say, once a week or twice a month) it would make you choose which items you want to wait for or earn and which ones you want immediately in exchange for a duplicate item you currently own.

Trading is only going to be for hats, because getting weapons is so easy. Ban idlers? No, I don't think so, some people really want hats, I know I do. Unlocked weapons were not designed to be exclusive, you just need to have spent some time before you get them, which the new system has nailed.

It's nice because now people can get the weapons either way.

It was taking me forever to get the huntsman, but I just got on the server today and BANG, got it and the CnD. Now I have everything. It's honestly a nice thing...

Last time i checked, farming was not against Valve's policy. Council already stated that if you need to farm, remove your tags, and find a farm server. do what you need to do, and leave. Don't act like an ass, follow the achievement server's rules, etc.

Hmmm, you all make great points.

But I honestly don't see why people bother.
I mean they made this new system for a reason. :/
Then re put milestones.

I can only see the farming as the reason.

The new system is really broken. For example, someone's favorite class is a pyro, they never play Sniper/Spy. They're playing on a server one day and BAM, they find an ambassador. Now another player, who's favorite class is spy, probably wouldnt be as lucky as the pyro. The player who is the pyro will probably never use the ambassador. The system needs tweaks.

Well, now that there are achievements unlocks again, and considering that the new achievements are all relatively easy to obtain in-game (especially for the Spy), I'd say it's fixed.

Oh yeah now it is, I was referring to when it first came out.

I never farmed achievements.

However, I will admit that after this new system was implemented I have idled.

I still think achievements are the way to go, except for hats. It's more fun to be surprised when you unlock something, and go check what the achievement was for. They could always just have lowered the number of achievements for the milestones or made more easy achievements.

The reason that they have both play time and milestones implemented is in order to cater to a larger player base and appeal to a wider range of people. Valve is a great game developer, but they also need to make money in order to keep making the great games that they make.
