Am i the only who is worried about our belowed tf2 updates? i mean we saw last time how valve took time out of their calender for l4d 1... i mean now number 2 is on the way and looks like it's going to be bigger (tho much of it is copied from l4d 1) but i forsee those 5 months waiting time again between each update

It probably will, knowing valves special way when working on projects and times.

They have 6 down. 3 to go.

Possibly 1 more before November. Most likely Engy and then after L4D2 get released they'll go for the double release of Soldier and Demoman.

Hey as long as they hit Engie up I could care less about the rest.

I think they'll have it done better this time around. What I'm really disappointed in is the severe lack of any mention of HL2: Ep 3...

with the recent release of 2 class updates i think they are hoping we will not grow restless if there is a long waiting period between this last 2 and the next one...

if this is the case they are sorely mistaken

It's not possible. Something that many people don't understand is that the two games are done by two completely different studios. Meaning completely different teams. Therefore, the only reason class packs take so long is because the TF2 team is working on something else for TF2 or a different game not L4D related.

L4D did not hamper TF2 progress, and neither will L4D2.

Yeah I agree with PuddinPop. It's two different studios. I don't think L4D2 will hamper progress in TF2.

i still don't believe they are making a two there is so much they can do for the first one like ummmmmmmmm more than 6 WEAPONS !!!!!!! or how about this more frickin' maps !!!! it is sad how vanilla the dang game is. If they don't do something for it then i personally won't buy the second one for fear of a lack of more stuff

For the most part, that is true, but Valve does double-dip if they need to:

Well, it's been a couple of weeks since we updated the blog, and we thought it was time to let you know why we've been so quiet. The last couple of weeks we've actually been moonlighting on Left 4 Dead. While the L4D team has been focusing on finishing up the core cooperative gameplay, we've been helping them by working on their Versus mode. Versus is the recently-announced competitive mode where one team plays the Survivors and one team plays the Infected. We've learned a lot while working on TF2 in the last year, and we were able to apply some of those lessons to Versus mode. As a result, we've just finished adding critical hits, respawn waves, flawless auto-team balancing, and facestabs to L4D, while removing anything that looked remotely like a grenade.
I kid, I kid.

Now that we're wrapping up that work, we'll be returning to TF2. We've got a bunch of exciting changes coming down the pipe for the next class update. Feels good to be home again!

In the case of L4D2, most of the groundwork is already done. They're just expanding on what is already available in L4D, which hopefully wouldn't result in them having to pull too many people away from L4D, especially now that the L4D team is more experienced in game development and doesn't have to lean on TF2 for theirs.

I just watched the trailer and if they actually have a chain saw and the other melee weapons i saw (we all know that what we see in game trailers doesn't mean it's in the game at teh end) i might consider getting it.

What I find weird is that its not even that long ago that L4D came out i think its kind of early for L4D i think they should finish the updates than work on L4D2. It just seems wrong to have all the updates unfinished while they work on L4D2.

I'd say that Episode Three will be announced very late this year or early next year and will be released summer 2010 or fall 2010.

They actually all work in the same building, just under different teams. It's not separate studios, but just separate groups of people working on separate things under one roof.

On the other hand, Robin's team, currently, is quite small, and they only reason the L4D team needed help from the TF2 team during L4D's production was because they needed help developing better netcode. Now they've got that pretty much down, I don't see why they'd their help even more, unless they want to make more FMVs or something.

I was wondering if we can play test for Valve again. It was fun when we went to play test for them on the first Left4Dead.

Honestly, I mean L4D just came out, why do we need another one 1 year later? This isn't like valve at all, I'd expect L4D2 to be a 2011 release.
