New to TF2

After About 6 years of playing DOD/DOD:S I decided to buy TF2 about a month ago and see what all the hubub was about.

It's been hard to get used to. I can't exactly say it's grown on me, but I've been trying to play more often.

I've tried all the classes and I've mainly stuck to the 2fort map.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or playing tips they would like to impart while I'm still new here.

Have fun. I never did get into the game until i learned that kills is not everything, once i got to have more fun i started getting better

try all the maps, and make sure to especially try black mesa. try all the classes too.

Ha ha. Im in the same boat Grenade, I've been rocking Pyro lately, Once you get the better weapons, its a whole lot better.

I've been giving engineer a chance but I don't always know where to set up my sentry's. I've got guys going "Grenade, you're not putting that THERE are you?" lol.

Spy obviously takes some time to learn.

Played the other classes sporadically.

I was/ still am a DOD Source type of guy, but I heard great things about TF2 so I bought it.
Best advice I can give.
1. Play
2. Play Valve maps! or Blackmesa! ( my favs)
3. The most important thing to do

Play In scrims! Best Scrims In all of eGO!

Soldier, Pyro, Medic, and Heavy require the least amount of skill imo, but with skill, you can take one of those classes and make them so rockin', But its all about the way you play too, be sure to look at the classifications of the classes (Offense, Defense, then the other group) and try to pick a class from that.

Try to observe other players while being medic and see how they play and pick up some tactics from that.

Medic is the way to go at first, beccause it is the easiest . or scout because it runs really fast so its able for new players to take that advatnage

I've been using the Pyro Flare gun some.

What is the best class for unlockables? Meaning, if I were to put in the time I would receive the greatest butt-kicking benefit in return. Who has the best weapon?

I've been playing this game (team fortress) for 13 years.... What i like about it is... Fun is more important that Skill.

sure you can focus on "skill" and "kills" and "points" or whatever. or you can have just as much fun just playing and having a blast.

I've played some DoD with your Grenade. if you want get me on your friends list (if i'm not already) and we'll go play some tf2. best way to learn is play with people you know.

I'm not a total noob, I've been playing for years, just not TF2, so I can do alright and figure things out pretty quickly but there is plenty about the game I need to learn.

Welcome to the TF2 division. If you want to learn a few stuff just spec. at first and observe other more experienced player and pick up some of their tactics. And if you have the time you can find some user written guides on how to play certain classes (they are in division discussion subforum). Any questions, let me know.

Ha ha. Im in the same boat Grenade, I've been rocking Pyro lately, Once you get the better weapons, its a whole lot better.

There's no such thing as better weapons.

Only sidegrades...Or so they say.

Some weapons are total upgrades *cough* blutsauger *cough*.

the other thing about playing medic when you are good is you get to see a lot of how other people are playing

if you stick to medic for a while you will pick up a lot of what else is going on, what to look for, what your teammates are doing or trying to do, etc.

tryout diffrent maps. i have never liked 2fort and probly never will.. so my advice is try diffrent maps. I would stick to one class until you get good at it. Then davel into the other classes.

try out everything (classes, weapons, maps), to find out what's comfortable for you, and what fits your playing style (for instance: the backburner is awesome if you're good at getting behind enemy players). i started out playing 2fort as well, but now i find i vastly prefer other maps. welcome to tf2.

Like any other game, keep playing and you will get better...Plus isn't it about just having fun anyway? Seriously, stick to one class at a time, until you get a grip on it, then move on....

I recommend praticing solider first because he is so easy to be good with fast. He was 1 of my first classes and i kicked butt as him = P
