New to TF2

Protip #1: Never use the pyros unlockable, the backburner.

Try to observe other players while being medic and see how they play and pick up some tactics from that.

That is not a tips just your own opinion, whether you like the flamethrower or the backburner better is up to you to decide, just like with all the unlockables. Dont let anyone tell you which class is best or what weaps, just play what you like and eventually you'll get the hang of it.

Good Luck

There are six modes of play in TF2.

Capture the Flag - 2fort is one of these types of maps. Each team has a flag (intel) that you have to defend and capture, first to three captures wins. It's fun, but can turn into a major stalemate.

Capture the Point - Blackmesa is one of these. Each team tries to capture all five points to win before the timer runs out. Capturing points adds more time. You have to capture these points in a certain order. Generally I find these the most fun as you can change the course of the game with one good push.

Capture/Defend - Dustbowl is a major example of this. One team tries to defend points while the other team tries to capture them. Generally there are two points and you have to capture them in order. Once the attackers capture both points or the defenders successfully defend until time runs out, then the teams switch on attack/defense. These types of maps require good teamwork so they can be fun, but generally they're one-sided.

Push the Cart - Hoodoo is the newest example of this type. One team has to push a cart to a certain point along some tracks to win. The other team defends. Players push the cart by standing next to it, it follows along a pre-defined track which makes setting up a defense easier. After successfully defending or pushing the cart to the goal, the teams switch. These can be fun, but in my opinion are generally grenade spam fests.

Double Push Cart - Only one of these so far, it's a new type of map. Both teams have carts and try to push to a goal. You have to balance defense and offense. I find this type of map to be more fun than the single cart maps.

And lastly we have Arena maps - Players are divided into random teams and have to eliminate the enemy team. You only get one life, so if you die you have to wait till the next round. After a few minutes, a single capture point opens up in the center of the map, whoever captures that wins. Generally the capture point is used to pull any remaining players to a central area to finish the round quickly. It's also used when one team has a player hiding out somewhere and you don't want to hunt them down. These are a fun diversion from the normal objective-based maps.

Best advice I can give you: DO NOT play 2fort. Try out other maps, maps that people actually try and achieve the objective. Don't get caught up with just killing your enemies, push that cart, cap that point. Try out all other classes, you'll find one that really caters to you eventually. I would also suggest medicing for a little while, find a good player who you can stick with and pick up some tips.

You can add me on steam if you like- Vandall613.

Yeah, all I can say is try ALL maps. There is some that might just click, 2fort is a totally different playstyle from say VALVe maps. 2fort usually ends up in a big TDM rather than going for the intel, which a lot of people like.

Alright, so I played a bit today.

I took your advice and went medic for awhile. Earned an upgraded syringe gun and double barrel shotgun for the scout.

I also tried some different maps. Didn't really care for Black Mesa. Too many ways to be flanked.

I liked pipeline though, thats pretty crazy.

I do like 2fort, reminds me more of DOD, with sewers like Kalt, fewer flanks. Some of these TF2 maps are so full of holes and pathways that you're always getting stabbed in the back.

The problem I have with medic is the feeling that I need to know who i'm paired with. I don't know who they are, how well they play. I feel like I'm missing that connection so I know that while we're running together (say with a heavy) that we're thinking the same thing.

Above it all however, the thing that makes me NOT want to play this game, is getting shanked by spies. In DOD I just about never get shoveled. You creep, listen for footsteps, hear a nearby kill, it's more surreal. So for me to be focusing on the enemy and have a guy thats INVISIBLE come up and kill me, I'm not sure I can get past that, especially for the frequency that it happens.

I'm so used to realism that to play a cartoonish game where players are invisible is hard to get used to. Invisibile attackers kind of ruined it for me today.

Yeah, due to the recent updates Spy and Sniper are being played ALOT, its depressing, but eventually whenever the soldier and engy updates come out, we'll just have to deal with mass rockets and Sentry Guns.

I really don't see whats so bad about it. The backburner is my anti-Pyro tool, as well as just WTFPWNing anyone I get behind. I will never use the compression blast, it wastes too much ammo and requires too much concentration, that I really don't want to use in a game. Just use what suits you best.

No 2Fort love? :( I love 2Fort, play it all you want. :)

As far as spies go, it's frustrating, but try not to stand around in the same place for too long. That's why I like pyro. I LOVE burning those invisible little weasels! :)

Spycheck.

Stay with your buddies (then someone will pretty much always be checking behind ya)

Play Spy.

yeah this is a copletely different play style from DOD. the best defense against spies is to move around if you bump into something it's a spy. if you're medic try to be a with a good player that protects his medic. if he doesn't keep you protected he isn't worth your time in which case stop healing him and chase the spy down with your bone saw/uber saw or blutsauger

Yeah i think you should try to stick with people u see towards the top of the scoreboard for now or a freind because they usually knkow what to do best or some1 with a mic because they will keep u up to date or you can talk back to them to keep them up2date with what u want to do. Also if your volumes high enough u can hear spys uncloak which is a dead give away tell ur dude ur healing to look out or u get off healing and hunt him down. Also if you run into a teammate andu dont go through them there a spy get out ur bonesaw/ubersaw or blutsauger and mow the spy down also if they die in like 1 hit from the syringe they have the dead ringer and are still alive and then you need to listen for a very loud noise like a dieing cat

Usually, spies are easy to deal with. You just have to be paranoid :D
Assume that EVERYONE is a spy until you've checked them. If you see them shoot, they are not a spy. If you see them exit a tele they may be a spy. If they are acting very weird, and look kind of out of place, check them! You CAN hear spy's footsteps and uncloaking sounds, so keep that in mind.

With more experience, you'll get used to spies. Don't get discouraged, spies play for the ragequits. And if you continue to have trouble with spies ask your teammates to spycheck more, force yourself to be more aware to what's going on, play with teammates that know what they're doing, etc.

I played one of the maps where you cap points then switch teams. Went pretty well, didn't get whacked by many spies. I played medic and this time I tried to pair with a better player as some have suggested. That went pretty well actually except I don't think he changed the way he normally played - as in didn't move/play for me as well since I was in tow but I got quite a few kills that way.

Playing medic class I wish I could pair up with an eGO member and get into vent so we can have some really excellent teamwork because pairing with the wrong player sucks lol. You go uber and they're still hiding behind the wall lol.

Question, I have two level 10 shotguns for the scout, what do I do with the extra one?

play as a engineer, thats how i started to become comfortable and aware of my sorroudings. and watchout for those spys they will sap the heck outa your torrents :p

First, I'd be happy to go into vent and play with you. (Steam = Vandall613)
Second, when refering to the unlockable weapons it's better to call them by their name rather than "level x so and so..." People well recognize what you are talking about faster if you just call them by name. The levels don't mean anything anyways, Valve may introduce something later on that gives some significance to the levels. But for now don't pay any attention to the levels, it DOES NOT mean one weapon is better than another.
Third, I assume you mean the Force-a-nature when you level 10 shotgun. You have 2 options: 1. Delete since it's just a duplicate and won't be any use to you
2. Keep until they introduce the trade system and trade/give to someone who wants it.
