Case: Someone else can get this, I don't know too much about those.
PSU: The Corsair.
Processor: the 920
Cooling: No familiar with any of those so I'll leave this to someone else.
Motherboard: The MSI one.
Memory: Go ahead and get 1600Mhz.
Video card: 2xGTS 250(Although I'd personally get a GTX 260 Core 216 or a GTX 280)
Hard drive: Go with the 2x500Gigs.
Sound card: Go with the extreme gamer.
Speakers: Logitech X-240
Network card: Just go with the onboard. If you're really set on a dedicated NIC, get an EVGA Killer Xeno Pro.
Keyboard: Razer Lycosa
Operating System: Vista Home Premium
Extras: None unless you're into over clocking.

Thanks for the quick response :) About the video card... I'm not certain about the 250, but I would like to try to get SLI. If you think the 260 is a better option I'll look into it.

As a builder of computer, if I had my choice & your budget, I would go with the following:

Case:Nzxt Guardian 921 Gaming Tower Case
PSU:850 Watt -- Corsair CMPSU-850TX Power Supply (better ratings on newegg)
CPU:Intel? Core? i7 920 Processor
Cooling:Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooling Fan System
Motherboard:Asus P6T
Memory:6 GB [2 GB X3] DDR3-1600 (not a big difference in bus speed here)
Video card:2x NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB
Hard drive: up to you (both the same size & speed even when formatted)
Audio card: if all your gonna be doing is playing games, i would suggest the gamer card. if you like doing both music & games, then get the xtreme audio.

Sound system: id try with the ibuypower 2.1 system (since its only $8). i got altec lansing 2.1 speakers for $25 (theres an upgraded version of my speakers @ walmart for $25. alot better than spendin $55 on those logitech set.)

network: just use onboard lan. ive never EVER had an issue w/ an onboard lan with any motherboard, esp my prev asus. now like freaking said, if ur dead serious on the network bit, then get the evga (killer nic is just horrible). if anyone is willing to spend over $25 for a network card, they must be serious gamers (thats all i will say).
keyboard:Razer Lycosa (sounds fine)
OS: both os's are 32-bit, which means that it wont read all 6gb of ram. you will need go get a 64-bit version prob on newegg.
Extras is your choice.

Case: Nzxt Guardian 921 Gaming Tower Case
PSU: 850 Watt -- Corsair CMPSU-850TX Power Supply
CPU: Intel? Core™ i7 920 Processor
Cooling:Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooling Fan System
Mobo:Asus P6T Intel X58
Memory:6 GB [2 GB X3] DDR3-1600 Triple Memory Module
Video Card:2x NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB w/DVI + TV Out Video - SLI
Hard Drive:I'd recommend 1 500GB as a main and a 1TB as a storage drive if you can
Sound Card:Creative Lab Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
Sound System: Check out local areas for speakers IMO
Network:Onboard
keybaord:Razer Lycosa
OS:Both are 32bit on iBuyPower's site. Get 64bit version on newegg or something so your using all that 6GBs
Extras:Go wild...

@ pillar, didn't even look at your post. Great minds think alike I guess xD

Wal-mart Security and Pillar when you select the box for Windows Home Premium you can select 64 bit underneath it as part of the more options, its $4 more expensive on Ibuypower however for the convenience I would say just go for it :P

Everything there specified by Pillar with Home Premium and a 1Tb drive (It works out $14 cheaper to go for a single drive) comes to $1715 so if you were wanting something extra like taking it to 2 Nvidia GTX260 896Mb you do have the scope to do so (that would take it to $1801) or if anything else there takes your fancy

EDIT: Just noticed on the Page that using IBUYPOWER as a coupon code takes 5% of the price off so that knocks it down by 85.75 to $1629.25

Thanks a lot guys :) I really like Pillar's post. I've decided on Pillar's system w/ 64-bit OS and 2 drives of 500GB (One for music/videos, the other for my real stuff). You're help is very much appreciated. I love our community. Thanks again.

Network Card:bigfoot networks has a brand new NIC card coming out soon, i would wait for it to come out
  • Killer K1 - Online Gaming Accelerator - w/ 333Mhz Network Processing Unit + Lag Reduction Technology

Don't buy a Killer NIC. It's a waste of money. $200 for a bit more performance. Yay? But the Intel one.

Case:
It doesn't really matter. Get what looks the coolest to you.

Power Supply:
850 Watt -- Corsair CMPSU-850TX Power Supply
Corsair all the way. There are two things you should never ever cut corners on, and one of them is the power supply.

Processor:
Intel? Core™ i7 940 Processor (4x 2.93GHz/8MB L3 Cache)
If you don't have the know-how to build a computer, you probably don't want to overclock. Therefore, you need a CPU that is hot right out of the gate.

Cooling:
Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooling Fan System
None of them were my choice, but of the ones available the CM V8 is the superior. It'll keep it arctic. I promise.

Motherboard:
Asus P6T Intel X58 Chipset CrossFire and SLI Supported w/7.1 Sound, Triple-Channel DDR3, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, 3-Way SLI PCI-E MB, 3-Way SLI
Neither of those boards were my choice, but the Asus is the lesser of two evils. The motherboard is the other thing you should never compromise on, so it's almost always worth buying a quality board.

Memory:
6 GB [2 GB X3] DDR3-1333 Triple Memory Module
Looking to save money? Unless you plan on overclocking, I highly doubt you'll notice the difference between the two kinds of memory.

Video Card:
2x NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 1GB w/DVI + TV Out Video - SLI
This is really to your taste. Two of this card will shred, three will destroy. I suggest you start with two, then if you have enough money at the end of the build add the third.

Hard Drive:
2x 500 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache]
RAID 0 will give you great performance. It won't exactly be bulletproof, but your games will load faster, Windows will load faster, etc.

CD/DVD Drive:

* none
Good choice.

CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive:

* LG 22X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD?R/?RW + CD-R/RW Drive
No lightscribe? Lightscribe is so much fun to play with, ha ha.

Audio Card:
Creative Lab Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
While good audio is essential to a game, it's not the end of the world if you don't have it. I have the Creative Fatal1ty PCI-e sound card, and it's awesome, but I think your money will be better spent elsewhere.

Sound System:

* 100W PMPO (RMS: 1W) 2 Pcs Stereo Speaker System
* iBUYPOWER 2.1 Channel Stereo Super Bass Subwoofer Speaker System
* Logitech X-240 2.1 Configuration Speakers System
I'm not one who should be recommending speakers. My awesomeness hasn't quite spread there yet.

Network Card:
Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100)
If you ever find yourself thinking that you need a super awesome NIC that costs a hundred bucks, I think you need to get a life. The onboard NIC is fantastic.

Keyboard:

* Logisys Ultra Slim Soft Touch Multimedia Keyboard
* Razer Lycosa Gaming Keyboard
* Razer Tarantula Gaming Keyboard w/ 10 Programmable Gaming Hotkeys
This is another buy to taste thing. I personally prefer softer mushy keyboards, some prefer clicky ones. You should go to a Best Buy or equivalent and test the keyboards out. I can't tell you what you'd like.

Operating System:
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium + [Free 60-Day !!!] Microsoft Office 2007(Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access ....)
Vista Home Basic is a joke.

Extras: (Pick Any Combination)
None, really. I would say the thermometer, but they'd probably want you to install it yourself. That's how those things go...

Really ? Has no one of you suggested the 2 500GB HDD's in RAID ?

Edit: I now see Xenophek did...... Great minds think alike

10000 rpm drives or SSD's is the best way to go.

ill never buy a 7400 rpm drive again.

Well Blue Stealth, that's great but it doesn't really matter what any of us think. He was very serious about not being able to flex that far.

"Please, only pick from what's been given as an option. This is going to be made with iBUYPOWER..."

I usually wouldn't be rude like this, but you're giving him bad information. He doesn't seem to know hardware that well, or he wouldn't be posting in the first place. I feel that you telling him to buy a SSD is nothing but trouble. Or the velociraptors in your first post. Where were those an option in his list? They weren't, so don't lead him astray.

To JV:
Yeah, that's right. Great minds do think alike. Even if he doesn't do RAID 0, there are still advantages to be had by using two separate hard drives.

I figured since the I7 940 and 3x video cards are not needed, and these were considerations he was taking, the money he planned to spend would be better put to use in the HDD department. I guarantee you IBUYPOWER has raptors and velociraptors as options for HDD.

I understand that he only wanted us to pick from the choices he gave, but as I would interpret my posts, as far as the hard drives he listed, I would go with neither. So he can pick whichever one he wants, im not here to tell him to do differently, just saying that with the choices he gave, I am giving him the most helpful information I can.

I would rather suggest to him alternatives than say, you need better choices. Its hard to ask for help when you dont allow any.

And yes, you were being rather rude. But I digress. I can see my help is not wanted here.

Your help is most welcome in my opinion, but you violated his conditions for the post. I do sincerely apologize for my rudeness, but your arrogance simply couldn't be overlooked.

No point of giving him the 940 i7 over the 920.
Just OC the 920 and save lots of cash, the 965 is a different story.
Hence there is the 950 and 975 out now.

A side note: The 940 is going out of production soon...

arrogance? i dont think so. maybe stubborness
