Will it blow up?? That is the question!!

Anyway, Im upgrading the RAM in my laptop so I can get a little more efficiency and just overall better computing.

Originally, my system came with 2, 1 GB sticks of DDR2 666mhz ram. I figured, since vista 32-bit can't won't use more than 3.12 GB's, I could just take out a 1 GB stick and put in the 2 GB corsair DDR2 667 mhz stick I ordered from Newegg.

So, will it work or will it blow up?

Thanks!!:P

it will not blow up

just make sure you ordered laptop memory (SO-DIMM) not desktop memory

it wont blow up but your 2gb will not run at full capacity because they are not the same exact specs. so if anything it would be around 3gb but usually less. also what reflex said...

You can do this without having to worry about things blowing up. All will be ok.

What you will be doing is running the RAM in single channel mode as opposed to dual channel mode. Essentially, this means you will have more RAM storage, but it won't read and write as fast. I would just get the 2x2GB so you can run dual channel, and accept that your OS isn't using all of it.

Want a more complicated answer? Read this nice write-up about dual channel memory.

Thanks for all the answers..

Reflex, I got SO-DIMM memory, no worries there. Im most likely going to pick up another 2 GB stick at some point anyway now that I know that it would work in pairs.

Im gonna wear a helmet in any case, just cause I feel like vista might flip out on me
