Looking for new motherboard/CPU, need suggestions

Hey everyone,
I've been looking for a new quad coreCPU. Because my current motherboard (MSI K9N SLI Platinum) only supports dual core, I need to upgrade my motherboard as well.

I love AMD, and have been looking at the Phenom II series. I'll most likely be buying those, however I have no idea which motherboard to get alongside it.

I need it to be socket AM2+, have at least 4 RAM slots, and be crossfire compatible.

that motherboard needs ddr 3 ram if you have it this is one of the best AMD setups out there i built this setup for a friend of mine is it rocks

I was looking for an AM2+ motherboard, not AM3. I don't have DDR3 ram, but I have 6 GB of DDR2.

Also, the price range: Hopefully I could get both for under $300 CAD.

I'm in no way an expert but I've built a couple computers.

This last build I went with a gigabyte SLI motherboard. I bought a quad core for it. It supports DDR3 RAM also.

I had an intel board and it was junk.

This gigabyte board has been very reliable thus far.

There are two things you should never compromise quality on in a computer. One of those is the motherboard. The only motherboard brand I can recommend to anybody with a good conscience is Gigabyte. I've played with asus, and seen those die. I've used Foxconn, and seen them die. I've never had a Gigabyte board die, and I've got one in a different machine that's nearly a decade old.

Here's a fantastic motherboard that will support Phenom II processors. Not to mention two PCIe 2.0 slots...

That's really sad. Nothing's bulletproof, but in my experience Gigabyte has been the best. I think you were one of the unlucky ones.

i personally love dfi i have never had any problems with any of the dfi boards i have gotten
but then again everyone has there own preference

Ok... I have built many computers in my lifetime so far... there are a few things that you can choose from...

IMO- I do not think that paying 60-70 dollars more for a 3.2ghz is worth it, which is why I set you up with a 3.0ghz. The motherboard supports DDR2. If you want ddr3 ram, you will be looking are more expensive motherboards and also ram on top of that.
