I got told a riddle type thing. It's impossible. I wanna see if the bright minds at eGO can help me figure this one out.

3 People go into a second hand car dealership.
They buy a car, that costs ?300, therefor each one of them handing ovre ?100.
The salesman goes into the office to get the paperwork, when the manager says "We have reduced that car down to ?250."
The salesman puts ?20 in his pocket, without the manager knowing.
He then gives each of the people ?10 pounds back, which makes up the rest.

Each person has now paid ?90 each.
3 x ?90 = ?270

The salesman has ?20, add that on is ?290.

Where is the last ?10 note?
 
Nope. The manager didnt take anything. The salesman took ?20, and gave the rest of it to the 3 people. Making up the ?50 that was taken off.
 
You don't add it. Each person paid 90 = 270
-20 the salesman took = the price of the car = 250
 
i don't know how to word it exactly, but getting it all back to 300 really doesn't matter, there is no missing money at all, the 3 10's he gave back make 30, add the 20 he took makes 50, so the only reason that there is not 300 is because thats just the way maff works! :P
 
After the people pay the 300 pound price, the salesman has 300 pounds. He then puts 20 in his pocket; now he has 280 pounds plus 20 in his pocket. He gives each person back 10 pounds, so he now has 250 pounds (the price of the car) plus 20 in his pocket. 250+30+20=300.
 
They are physically given ?10 back from their ?100. They Each pay 100 - 10. Then take away the 20 the salesman took, it does give 250, it is in the multiplication of the (100-10)*3 that screws everything up. I'm trying to get from them each paying ?90 and the salesman having ?20. To get this to work. Using the math there.
 
midget, it was solved for you, look @ Candlejacks post, your making it much more complicated than it is
 
Opeth, no. It's not been solved, there is no answer. Using that math. They get ?10 back. which gives them ?90. that times 3 = ?270, then you add what the salesman had it gives you ?290. Leaving you with ?10 missing. The sum should really be 250 + 30 + 20. But, I'm trying to get an answer to why the ?10 is missing USING THE MULTIPLICATION.
 
I'm pretty sure the whole point of the riddle is to realize that the given math is incorrect and you have to supply your own in order to come up with a solution
 
you won't solve it that way midget, that's incorrect math usage as it relates to the problem, in any case, im not going to continue arguing with you about a problem that's been solved
 
*sigh* Yes, you can solve it using other math. The math I provided, is what I want you to solve, why is it if each of the men paid 90, which = 270. And the salesman has 20, where is the last 10. I think this will stem into an arguement. Also, I'll post some other "theories" without using whole numbers. Before this does turn into an arguement, of how to do this, I don't mind if someone locks it or something.

The 270 the people payed includes the money the salesman took. They payed for the car and the salesman. So there's no reason to add the 20 to the 270. the 270 is 250+20 (car+salesman).
 
Indeed, Candlejack has this solved, the 270 payed is for the car and the salesman. they were shorted change if they were gonna get back the whole 50 from the (300 - 250) and the change shorted is the amount the salesman took, problem = solved.. way to go team!!
