How to get healed!

People always bitch at me, "dont run in there, i cant heal you" or "if you dont come to me when your hurt i cant heal you".

Medics have no more business telling other people how to play than anyone else has.

Some medics have been known to stick their necks out for team members. They're not surgeons they're medics. If they won't follow the troops why do they play? Still standing beside a doorway and healing your teammate in the threshold means you get to heal more people. Medics should always try to heal from cover, around corners, crouched behind boxes, whatever they can find. Unless of course you like the run from the spawn point to the front line.

There is a lot of people who yell HEAL ME" over the mic, when they're half way across the map and don't even say where they are or what class they are playing. Then get mad when you didnt heal them. ;)

or they give you a very vage description of where they are

you forgot the biggest one for me when i'm medic, what about the players that run at you and stand basically on top of you so you aren't able to lock cuz they are too close. then after they die cuz they couldn't get healed cuz of their own fault they call you a noob medic or something along those lines.

We won't pretend that players who play Medic, or any other class, are perfect. When you're a few percentage points away from an Uber or a Crit there is a tendency to want to see it through. Especially if the Uber may take out a major impediment to the team. The wise medic will follow the priority list. I wish I was wise all the time instead of just being a wiseguy.

At least heal until the fire stops or to a health where they can survive the 50 afterburn damage. . . :(

Quaffer, this helps me a lot (new player) - thank you.

A few times I have been on a team with no (or not enough) medics and would gladly take the role on, but didn't really have a good sense of how to be an effective medic.

As a receipient of healing from medics, I learned quickly that my role during the healing was to protect the medic.

Lastly, I apologize for pushing the 'e' key more than once....

i usually only let a medic follow me around if they got a mic and we can communicate and tell them when to pull back and when to use the uber's otherwise i find they will follow to closely and get killed. and the same for when i play medic i pretty much choose one heavy or solly that has a mic and will communicate and stick to them and heal an passerby's that need health

Great guide, a ton of people have a hard time getting medics to heal them, and people playing medic feel kinda unappriciated some of the time. Thanks!

Also, don't get mad at medics for running away when things go to heck, they're valuable and that short respawn time where there are no medics can mean the entire game for your team.

[*]Medics should be trying to heal by the following priority:
People on fire.
People with red medic balloons.
People with white medic balloons.
Anyone else on their team.

There is one more priority that needs to be at the TOP of the list, and that is:
People who are also playing medic.

Medics MUST heal other medics! I've had so many instances where another medic just ignores me (when I am medic) even when I'm calling for medic, and clearly I am in the red or almost dead.

Good medics don't need to see medic balloons (although it helps when a medic is not nearby), they should be constantly scanning and seeing who needs to be healed and overhealed whether in the midst of battle or not.

Wow great post! This is so helpful to newer medics and players, and even to more experienced players! Nothing is more annoying than many of the actions you went over in the post such as people taking a health pack when a medic is right there who needs it, etc. Thanks for the post, Quaffer!

^^ Ding, ding there Fiddler.

Nothing, I mean NOTHING, gets me more angry than a medic, in front of whom I'm standing while burning or with 10or less HP, who absolutely refuses to heal me. Yes medics heal them selves, but if you don't heal a dying medic you are not helping your team.

Medics, don't stop moving. EVER. If you do, you will get sniped, backstabbed, or hurt very badly. Don't always look forward, turnaround, jump, breakdance, If your back stays in one direction for more than 2 seconds, you will probably be the spies next victim.

Also you are the #1 spy checker. Run into everyone you see, if you bounce then that is a spy.

Be aware of your environment, know where the friendly dispensers and sgs are. They will save you. If you have a pyro chasing you, lead him into and sg trap.

@ non-medics

Scouts - if you want to be healed, stop moving. Slow down so the medic can lock-on to you.

As stated before, if you spam MEDIC, you will NOT get healed.

Finally, I know I could go on forever, if you have Woodstock on your team, there is no need to call for a medic. If your at the main choke point, just troll by me and you'll get a heal.

Here I thought that some things went without saying. For instance "Don't stand on a stickie bomb" I heal everyone. I have even been known to heal my own team's spies, though it goes against the grain.

Healing other medics on your team is like doubling the power of your healing gun and increasing its range to infinity. If you don't heal other medics on your team who do you think is going to heal you?

Why, by Hippocrates Hairy Bum, would a medic choose not to help any of his team members?

Thank you for the insight.

DONT HEAL ENEMY SPIES. EVEN ON PURPOSE. unless you are trying to dominate a teamate

  1. When you want to be healed press your (Medic!) key. By default this is "e".

Isn't the "e" button makes your character yell a "MEDIC!" battle cry?
and why when i do that battle cry, medics come to me? Weird huh?

;)

I play Medic a lot, and people seem to think it's funny to clown the Medic since it's the class without any "direct" firepower. It's an annoying problem to deal with players who refuse to be polite or at the very least try to actually be helpful (because god forbid we actually win the round, that's for n00bs). However, as a heavy Medic player (my second most played class is 10 hours below Medic O.o) I know how to be nice to Medics. In fact, I may even detriment myself because I hate to hit the Medic button, but we all have to at some point ya know?

In the helping new medics idea, I noticed a fresh faced Medic fresh from the school of doktoring on our team. He seemed to be doing an okay job, but I definitely noticed he was new. I lost him on a couple of ubers, but he told me that he lost me and there's so many people calling "MEDIC!!!" that he was getting lost in who to heal. Once we hunkered down and worked out the kinks we got going on some great uber rolls, devastating the other team and destroying their sentries all over the place. Always nice for a Medic to help me go on a PYRO RAMPAGE!!!

Also, a note for Pyros: Use your compression blast to put a Medic out if he's on fire! Do it, do it do it! Do that and destroy anything that comes near your Medic, and he will thank you forever with teh healz :D
