laptop or pc?

This is a big month for me, new pc :drool:
heres what i came up with
this laptop:
2.4ghz
nVidia geforce 9700m gts
4gb ram
720gb hdd

or my other option is to buy any other desktop and upgrade it.

If you're gaming, go with a desktop (imo). You'll have more stability, a faster CPU (usually), and they're also easier to upgrade/modify if you want. Also, bigger moniters usually don't come on laptops.

I say Laptop, that why you can game where ever you want, also they make laptops that are powerful enough to game, Any desktop that is 1-2 years old will be as strong as todays new laptops.

The ONLY reason to buy a laptop for gaming is if you need it for the mobility.

If you can get by with a stationary computer a desktop will get you far more for usually far less and can be upgraded later if need be with little hassle.

You can build a laptop that can run most modern games maxed out as however it will cost significantly more than a desktop able to do the same and you are very limited to the screen size (I personally find it hard to play on anything smaller than a 20" or so screen).

All comes down to if you want the mobility or not and how much you are willing to spend if so.

Agreed, if you buy a high end mobo. later on you can upgrade any part if needed. if you buy a high end laptop you can . . . . buy a new laptop when needed . most of all is price high end laptop = $$$$$

Desktop. They're much easier to fiddle around with in my opinion. Laptops can get confusing when taking them apart.

I agree with Kaine, laptop=mobility desktop=better overall if you don't need the mobility

Take it down to the nearest computer store, many places they offer to put in new stuff for your computer

Yea, comparing laptop and desktop prices on almost everything, the laptop stuff is way more expensive, plus taking it apart is a pain.

i got both and both of them can run all of my games at maxed out settings but i still don't use the laptop for gaming cause just think about when your gaming you will most likely be at home so if that all your using the computer for you should get a desktop because of the bigger screen, proper keyboard and more power for the same amount of money.

you should only really get a laptop if you actually have a reason to need to need a computer that you can drag around.

I have both. When my son and I want to game together, he uses the desktop and I use the laptop. They both work great. I can play DoD, TF2, and INS on max settings and not have any problems with the laptop.

Now as far as having to shell out a lot for a laptop, simply not true. My laptop is a Dell Latitude d810 that I bought off of ebay for $400. It has 2Gb ram, with 256Mb ATI video card.

My current issue is with the laptop keyboard. I am use to playing on a desktop keyboard. Playing on the laptop is not as comfortable and it is hard to adjust hand position.

Low end hardware in laptops is roughly the same price as desktops, you are correct there.

Not a chance you will build a mid-high end laptop for even close to the same price as a similar desktop (ignoring the fact that identical parts in laptops are usually slower/lower clocked/use lesser parts than there desktop counterparts).
