XP vs. Vista

Windows XP= Faster because of less programs and no stupid Windows Aero and stuff but Vista= So much better in so many ways. 1. It automatically installs drivers or any software you need when installing hardware, there is no need for CD's or anything that comes with your hardware product. Vista runs and looks amazing if you have the ram and space to make it run well. Also as some of you have stated. DX10 PWNS DX9 Dont believe me? Check it out!

Ive used xp 32 and 64 bit since they first came out.Ive experimented with vista but to me it was a waste of time.xp is reliable and done great when I had 2 gb for gaming and multiple programs running such as 2 guitar recording programs (supposedly a huge memory lose) and a defrag without a problem.so for me xp's a safe bet

Wasting your breath. Too many thick headed people in this thread afraid of change it seems. Heaving forbid another OS actually be worthy aside from the all mighty XP :chair:
 
People still bash vista o.0. I haven't heard any bashing since pre-sp1, everyone used to bash it and be a XP elitist but I thought that had stopped -- vista is an amazing OS (some people afraid of change?)
 
On my old system, recently replaced by a fresh build (hooray!), I was running XP - and I liked it. On that system, that seven or eight year old system, there was no sense in upgrading to Vista - it just wasn't worth it, and in Vista's early days, it wasn't worth it no matter what.

However, on the new system, I'm running Vista 64bit. Just basic home edition, and I like it just as much as I ever did XP. They added a few things that made some things easier and some things more difficult (my drawing tablet, for example - needed to disable some Vista stuff that makes it easier on everyone but me for this type of thing).

But as a whole, I'm very happy with it. Looks nice and sleek, I can turn off Aero and get it pretty much looking, navigating, and functioning like XP if I really want to. Get my page file down to ~700mb and it's really no worries.

DirectX 10 is awesome, I'm happy as hell to have it. I probably won't be ugprading to 7 until at least a year and a half, couple years from now.
 
I use XP only for my audio editing software. It's a great O/S, but there are too many limitations I think for todays apps and games. I really don't see the advantage of Vista 32bit over XP...however, 64bit Vista (w/ SP1 of course), can handle a lot more memory and seems to have faster load times. That is subjective of course, based on the crap you have loading up. But, I use that for all my everyday use and gaming. Does what I need it to do.
I also have Windows 7 RC (again, 64bit), impressive O/S...We'll see how that works out.
Bottom line - use what works for you...
 
Windows 7.
Think of Vista tweaked to use even less memory, and with moar features.
 
Well, since I've got a bad Video card (8500 GT with 512MB), and XP still provides the best performance for gaming, I run XP on my gaming desktop, and my Laptop. But, as soon as i get my 9800 GT, my Desktop will be playing Crysis ALOT better. :)

And I'll start playing TF2 again!

[EDIT] I also don't have vista, because I didn't really see a point in why I should. Sure, Vista has DX10, but no one can play Crysis on ultra high settings yet, so why bother? DX9 is good enough for me.

xp= Awesomeness but is outdated
Vista = Cool but needs better and easer user interface
Windows 7 = Gamers version of vista runs like xp so better then all the above.
 
Xp had it's peak moments, but then I switched to Vista just because it had awesome eye candy and because my computer could run it no problem.
 
dont use vista vista is suposed to use 8 gig of ram to run normal then more for extras like games so stay with either XP of 7
