new WD 640GB caviar black HDD - setup?

yeah I'm a cool guy sittin' in my shades, playin' with his brand-spankin' new WD 640GB disk. unfortunately I'm using it inside my less-than-perfect DELL, but that doesn't make any difference.

I connected the new HDD, enabled that particular SATA plug in BIOS, vista recognized it. then I formatted in (NTFS of course, what else?) from vista. at start-up DELL still insists on asking me to "enter disk configuration utility" and do whatever. should I? I mean there are choices: make RAID disk, reset disks from DAID. since I'm not using RAID on my C:\ or anywhere else; should I press "reset disks from RAID"? or should I not fiddle with it as it will lead to reformatting AGAIN?:sneaky2lease guys, throw some professional help my way. thank you.

the reason I ask is because my C:\ is filled to the brim with personal stuff and 100+ apps and games/save games thus it cannot be easily restored.

If you're just using it as a second drive, don't mess with RAID configs.

RAID will need you to reformat both drives. Don't mess with raid

I remember when one of my HDDs broke, all my data on both drives went *poof*. Thanks to RAID.

in no way am I wanting to try RAID. what I was alluding to was this... I AM NOT USING NOR WILL EVER USE RAID. I have c:\ (primary = vista) in my DELL. now I added d:\ and formatted it in vista. EVEN THOUGH IT IS ALREADY FORMATTED, dell still asks (befor vista loads) to "press CTRL+I to enter disk config utility". apparently drives can be somehow "configured w/o RAID in that dos utility, but since d:\ works perfectly well without "configuring", I might just leave it as is, untill I reformat the whole shebang in my "future" build.

That thing will pop up forever. Taunting you, just begging to be used. Ignore it. It's something hard-coded into the BIOS whenever it detects multiple drives.

You've already configured it to be used without RAID, so ignore the BIOS utility.

Have you tried maybe changing the jumpers on the back of the drives setting 1 to master & 1 to slave? Maybe your bios will leave you alone if the 2nd drive is slaved?

if I'm right there are no master or slave drives with sata hook up since you plug the drives into sata 1, sata 2 sata 3 ect. to note their order.
