welcome to the tf2 division. as for tips, if you can master the soldier class, you can dominate this game. it' along with the pyro is a good class to start off with to help learn the game. other classes, spec people that are playing them and doing well, and try to learn from them.

really it's all about finding the class that fits you best. idk anyone that can say the are good at every class. if someone is efficient at 3 classes they are doing good. so play all the classes, see which ones you like and then practice with it.

Like Chaoscat said, Medic is a great class to start playing when you're new to TF2. It's a good way to learn the flow of the game, and see what tactics people tend to utilize.

In addition, Pyro is a pretty simple class, but extremely fun to use--and you can get tons of kills as Pyro.

Still fairly new myself - there are some good guides that'll give you an idea; spectating will also help.

Also, asking for tips/advice in game (in moderation) seems to be acceptable as well.

Don't listen to him Snipers can't hit targets that stand still--Especially scouts. It's when you move that you're a dead man. (Their sight is based on movement.)

Yeah, anyway, starting off with medic is a good idea. I started off as sniper, now I'm awful at most everything else

I won't presume to suggest a class. There is enough variety you'll find one you like. I wrote some suggestions on how to get medics to heal you and how to play medic. Take a look here. I got a lot of helpful suggestions to improve the thread. Thats the great thing about TF2. People are always willing to tell you where to ... how to improve your game. I came over from the DoD side. It's a lot of fun.
