Ok I was wondering how you guys felt about Empire Total War since im am really considering buying it.

IGN gave it a 9.5.

I am a fan of strategy games and a fan of the total war series and I just needed more than 1 opinion before I spent 50 on a game.

I have been playing TWS since RTW came out and I really have loved it. Now I say "loved" because after Medieval 2 Total War I just got sick of it. First of all it got extremely repetitive and M2TW was very poorly made. I think ETW would be a great game but it might get old quick plus if the online is still run by Gamespy then thats another negative for it.

There is a demo out there try the demo before you buy the ETW. But ETW is my favorite RTS out there right now.

I've been playing ETW since it's release, and I have played every Total War game since Shogun(of which I would love to see a remake). Here are my thoughts on ETW.

First off, I'd like to address the bugs. While it is alot better now, there are still some major bugs. Many people, myself included, were experiencing graphical glitches and CTD issues. The CTD issues were extremely game breaking as they would often occur during the AI turn on the Grand Campaign, and would always CTD on that specific turn number, no matter how far back you went in your save files. The CTD issues seem to have largely been resolved, and I have finally been able to finish a couple of campaigns. Though some issues still exist, just recently I had a campaign rendered unplayable after 163 turns, this time though it doesn't CTD, rather the AI turn never ends. Nothing is happening but I can't control any of my units or end the turn. These kinds of game breaking issues can be quite frustrating.

That said, the naval battles are a nice addition to the series. Combine that with the gunpowder units, and you forced to change up your strategies from what you are used to in previous Total War games where melee was predominant. The campaign map is quite large with 3 main theatres(Europe, India and N. America) and various trade theatres. Overall, I think that most of the review sites are scoring this game way too high. I would honestly only recomend this game if you are a fan of the series, there are some cool additions, but the game still has some issues and it is missing some of the things I liked about previous Total War games, like the family tree, or dealing with the Papacy(M2TW) or the Senate(RTW), and missions, oh how I miss missions.

I still play it quite a bit, but occasionally I get frustrated and break out Rome: Total War, which is still my favourite to date.

Oh and I'm also a little bit annoyed that they want us to pay $3.50 for a few units in a DLC, something which should honestly be a free update to the folks that bought their game. They won't be getting my $3.50.

Ok Canuck, I wont buy the addon, because who wants to pay 3.50 for units you can only use in single player and what is CTD?

I second that..........Empire is a great game and is built better than most other total war games. Just got to get used to it. Strats are diffrnet to cause you have guns and not very got hand to hand....LOL:thumbup:

I agree RTW is the best by far and M2TW made it that much better since M2TW was just abysmal. If you don't have RTW I suggest you get that instead, it would also save you a lot of money. :)

ETW is a GREAT game. Its not on gamespy anymore and 90% of these bugs you speak of have been addressed and fixed.

As far as the DLC for $3.50. If you even read the update you would see that they gave you 14 free units as well. DLC content can be used in multiplayer at anytime AND in single player after the tech is unlocked.

Play the demo and form your own opinion.

Personally, I love it.

I got it, but ended up getting bored -- not sure why. It was pretty fun, just not the kind of RTS im used to. Like more fast paced RTS's like CoH, DoW 2, Starcraft etc.

Don't get me wrong, I still play the game, it is fun. I've been having a blast with naval battles, and have really enjoyed adapting my virtual generalship to the era of gunpowder. I personally really enjoy ETW, but for me RTW was the most exciting.

I've read the update, I don't mind paying for expansions, but this honestly feels to me like they are just nickel and diming their fanbase. However, that's just my opinion. I agree that the majority of the games bugs have been fixed, but it still has some issues, and some game breaking ones on occasion.

I agree that anyone considering this game should try out the demo and form their own opinion, because these things are always a matter of taste.
