This just started recently and i dont know what brought it on but, for some reason i cant hear in vent or if i try to watch a movie on windows media player i cant hear them talking, i can only hear the music, if someone could help, that be great :D

What kind of sound card do you have, when was it last updated, have you changed anything recently, and is it just those two applications that have problems?

Windows media player only by what I know

You ever think it is the codex?
Mine did it once... I can't remember where I downloaded this thing...
It makes it work though
Uhmmm...
*Searches through ALL 4 drives looking for the software*
ffdshow
Try looking/downloading that
It decodes videos and sounds...
It does it automatically if you use windows media player

There is another program that you can try to use to watch movies on your computer, called VLC. Try doing a google search on VLC, and download that. The program's advantage is that it does not need any decoders, which is why I use it for movies.

i have VLC player too, but its not only vent and media player, i was playing prototype and there was no voices in the cutscenes, so i think its the sound card. i got the comp im using from ibuypower and the sound card i chose is the "3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard "

With some sound working, and other sound not, it really sounds (pun intended) like a driver issue to me.

That or you have your surround sound set to more speakers than you actually have.

Go try updating your drivers.

i updated them and while trying to see if they work, i plugged my speakers into the front panel headphone jack and everything worked fine! but when i plugged my headset in to the back panel headphone and mic jacks, and no talking again :( ( and i cant plug the headset into the front panel because something is bent/warped for the ports and for them to work you have to hold the jacks in a certain place

So wait... does all the sound cut out when you use the rear headphone jack? Or just part?

just part, say i was watching a movie, i can hear all the music just fine but cant hear a word anyone is saying, but its just for movies not shows like generation kill (i mean that i can hear them talking in generation kill)

Then it really sounds like you have your surround sound set up wrong and/or are plugging your speakers into the wrong ports.

i doubt that because this just randomly happened, i havent messed with the surround sound in a while and i've allways had the speakers in those ports and they worked fine

hey try this
Start < All Programs < Accessories < System Tools < Systems Restore

That'll fix it if you only recently encountered the problem :D
Be sure to go to date where you KNOW it was working though
This isn't available on windows business or professional though.

apparently my computer didnt automaticly set up restore and i that doesnt work, emailed ibuypower and they said that it could be the mother board and i could need a new one :(

Open your case up and read the the number/model on the board.
It'll be located "normally" around the RAM slots.
You should automatically have restore points when you install something...
Windows Vista does it.
What OS you got?

This happens to me sometimes too, but it is in TF2 where the sound stops completely. The intro is fine when you scroll over a title to click it is fine, but when I join a server it just stops! I don't know the problem it hasn't happened lately...... *Knocks on wood*

yea its an ASUS P6T, and i have vista but it didn't set the restore
