Gaming Mouse and Keyboard Worth it?!?

Right now I am just using a good old Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse. It was about 50 bucks together. What I wanted to know is it worth spending 70-120 dollars for these gaming keyboards? Same with the mouses. Also add me on steam by clicking the link in my sig because I am new here and want to get to know the community. Ya so just post a reply letting me know. If they are good which type? Like brand and stuff.

p.s. if i get a mouse should i get one of those gaming pad things?

It REALLY depends on what you're looking at ...

You can spend lots of money on some things and have it broken in a month or two ...
You need to tell us what you're looking at specifically ... then we can tell you if it's good or not... and of course, what we think ;)

My thoughts: Get something you're comfortable with ... some mice and keyboards can be really awkward and halt your gaming possibilities.
 
IMO, a mouse is most definitely worth it. Whether or not a keyboard is depends on how much money you have and how serious you are about gaming.
 
A gaming mouse is a must for everyone but the most casual of gamers.

Gaming keyboards...well, they are nice, but will not affect your gaming experience as much. Keyboards that are illuminated can be nice for dim gaming environments, and the ability to press multiple keys simultaneously is always a plus.

If money is an issue, I'd recommend getting a nice mouse first, keyboard second.
 
I'm still using my crappy 8 year old dell mouse, and I've never really had any issues. I recently picked up an Illuminated keyboard from Saitek which I'm really happy with - playing in the dark is a lot easier now, while my fiance is sleeping. Not so much for DoD though, never really needed it for FPS games...

I'll probably look into a new mouse one of these days, but not anytime soon.

Yeah, I thought I was perfectly fine with my Dell mouse, But then I got a Razer Deathadder, and oh my god what a difference it made.
 
Gaming mouse helps, but keyboards...Naaah. Except if you wanna bind aalot of stuff in to buttons.

I use a Logitech G5 and before that Microsoft Habu. Both awesome, Habu just decide to broke.

Mouse = Worth it
Keyboard = It's just for fancy, not worth it in my opinion.


Oh, and I use a Logitech ulti-mat that came with the G5

Funny you should say that...

I use an ~8 year old Dell mouse too. I completely disassembled it and cleaned everything and tried it with my new PC, and it works amazingly well as long as i keep the ball rollers clean. I don't doubt that the newer, more expensive mice are BETTER, but this is still pretty dang good.

Although it should be noted that mine says Logitech on the bottom, there was just a Dell logo on top ("was" because it wore off a long time ago). I don't know if Dell also made their own mice or not.
 
I run a MS Sidewinder (mouse) and a Logitech G15 board... I think it has been VERY worth it... but you don't have to spend crazy money like I did to get something good... there is the G11 (my borhter in law uses it) and it is an excellent choice (cheaper than the G15 as well) and there are MANY gaming mice on the market for less than my sidewinder...

Put your hands on mice before you buy... some are just flat out uncomfortable... and you do NOT want to spend $50 on a mouse to have your hand cramp up...
 
If you're right handed, I reccommend either the Razer Deathadder or the Razer Mamba depending on your budget, how sensitive you like your mouse, and if you just want wired or wired/wireless ability.
 
The razer Lachesis is a fantastic mouse, I love it because I FPS game right handed, but with rts/rpg games & surfing & such Im a lefty. Even if you're not a lefty, its really comfortable & aside form a few bugs at launch [fixed with firmware update] its pretty much flawless. However if you do not have 65-70 to spend on a mouse, I would suggest the Logitech G5. The G5 is a nice sturdy comfortable mouse that you can pick up for ~30usd.

As for a keyboard, Only advice I have is get one that is comfortable for you. The 80usd+ "gaming" keyboards are rarely worth it, the most important factor if how much you like it. If you can manage to find one, you should take a look at the Logitech G15v1 [painted mine black & been worked these past few years flawlessly]. Its huge, but the macro keys and the LCD on it really come in handy. Just remember that when your looking for a keyboard, try to get one with anti-ghosting so that you can press more than 3 keys at once & have them work :)
 
I actually just bought a new logitech MX518 mouse last week to replace my really, really old dell mouse.
Incredible replacement I must say, $40 price tag isn't too shabby either.

As for a keyboard, I wouldn't worry about it honestly; just use whatever you have now unless you have-to-have something that's glowy/shiny/etc.
 
anyone who tells you a nice mouse isn't worth it has never had a nice mouse. It is totally worth it. I actually get better scores with a nicer mouse.

Keyboard is more preference. Old crappy keyboards work just as well for me as the nice ones. I have a saitek eclipse because i like the feel and the back lighting, not to mention the price.
 
I picked up a G5 and never looked back, the higher DPI is a must for twitch gaming. Can't even understand still using a old regular lazer mouse compared to this gaming optical one.

Keyboard isn't going to give you an advantage, its just if you want the macros/backlighting.
 
I'm using a G9 mouse right now and love it. I also use a G15. So yeah, a mouse is a must and a keyboard is just really nice to have.
 
Mouse first

I agree, a good mouse first is more important. I have A Logitech G9 and it works great. I also love my Razer Lycosa keyboard with its back lighting and rubberized keys. I can text easily in the dark and my fingers don't slip off the keys.
 
I am going to look into mouses. I think I am going to hold of on the keyboard for a while
