CoH via steam but OF retail

OK, Didn't know which forum to put this under but this one seems to fit. Here is my problem. I have CoH:OF retail and my friend is going buy CoH 1 via steam for me. I have a relic account but STEAM dosn't give you a CD key does it? How am I going link CoH1 to my relic account?

It might. When I bought Far Cry 2 on Steam, I got a CD key with the game.

ya when i got ut3 i was able to just right click on the game anytime and it would give me it's cd key

You can actually go and find your cd key for all steam games you have installed. to do this first open up regedit by typing it into either RUN or SEARCH depending on your operating system.

once in regedit navigate to this area:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam\Users\"some long number"\cdkeys]

once you are in this folder double click on each of the 5 or 4 number-long entries and look at the value number for each one. one of those will show you your company of heroes cd key if you have it installed on that computer.

Once you get this cd key, you can loginto your first account, and before logging into your profile you can click where it says "add a product" or something among those lines. From there it should be straight forward.

Thanks guys, I always buy retail but he wanted to give me UT3 and CoH so I was like "sure".

I tried doing this also but I have CoH:Gold so it won't let me link it but for the others, Relic Online told me to just type in the CD-Key from your retail box & it should work.

the reason that retail CoH keys wont work on steam is because of the cd verification step in the startup process. If you bought the retail version but are using steam to run the game, when it asks for cd verification it will confuse itself.

Its much easier using a steam cd key when running off the retail version. its all overcomplicated in a poor effor to protect the game from piraters, but unfortunately, this is all we have to work with.
