Vista = Bad; Windows 7 = Good

Alot of people say they have had problems with vista here and there, but honestly ever since i got it ive had NO problems at all. Runs smooth and perfectly for me.
But i still plan to get windows 7 when i get a new gaming rig.

Okay, I'll give a short rundown of Windows Vista vs Windows 7.
Now I'm not about to bash Windows Vista. I was on the Vista Dev team and was testing it for about two years before it was released, so I have no reason to bash Vista. I am an avid defender of Vista, especially when people start bashing it. But I have to admit that Windows 7 is leaps and bounds better.
Okay first and foremost, Windows 7 uses about half of the system resources that Vista does. There is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that has been done in Windows 7 to improve reliability and performance. There aren't a whole lot of things that jump out at you and say "HEY LOOK AT ME, I'M BETTER!" Most of the things in 7 are behind the scenes. Between Windows 7 and Vista, gaming performance has improved expotentially. I've seen gains in FPS and also when using the Windows Experience Indexing tool (The tool that rates your system by a number) my system gained an entire point on their scale.
Also for people looking to upgrade their OS in an enterprise environment, but looking to keep compatability issues at a minimum, Windows 7 Professional and Up have what is called Virtual XP. Which allows you to quickly launch a virtual XP inside of 7. I know many of you say that you could easily use VMWare, but that would require you to pay for XP licenses for each computer you wanted to have XP running on. And this is not like VMWare. The virtual computer is able to automatically see every drive that the 7 computer has mounted or networked. It has full access to everything the windows 7 computer does so that you can easily run your programs from inside the virtual machine and save them to a network share. This will allow companies to switch over to Windows 7 Enterprise with little to no worries about compatability or prolonged downtime.
Also Windows 7 comes with a new feature called HomeGroups. It's kind of like a workgroup except that it is a lot more user friendly when it comes to sharing files, folders and other things.
There are a lot of little things that I could list and a lot of big things I'm sure I'm missing, but you'll have to test it yourself.
Please do not bash Windows 7 before you have tried it. You can't sit there and say that an operating system is inferior when you have never used it. And honestly, you shouldn't listen to what other people say about it. If you want to know if you'll like it, go download the RC and test it yourself. I like it so much that I've already pre ordered my copy of Windows 7 Professional.

Well then, ShadowBlade took the words right out of my mouth. I've used Vista for a year and then moved on to the Win 7 Release Candidate because I've heard nothing but good about it, and oh yes. Games DO run so much smoother, but that can be explained on the other hand with the fact that my Vista was infested with viruses.
Also, the alt-tab mechanic seems to have improved by a mile - when you press alt-tab in a game you are in your desktop in what seems like a fraction of a second.
So yeah, I loved Vista for its time - and now I love Windows 7 and will be installing the RC for my new computer and buy the Ultimate-version when it comes out.

so far i like what im seeing out of windows 7 i expert better things out of it than vista

so i guess i will wait to windows 7 to come out before i build my new rig.
