Chro's 18 Pages on TF2 (which doesn't really beat my 4- page guide =P)

Original TF2F Thread

For all those who don't know, Chro is a competitive TF2 player and is widely considered to be amongst the best demoman players, he used to be a member of the clan balloons CEVO team.

Here's what he had to say when this was first published on TF2F forums:

I'll be astonished if people actually make it through the entire paper. To those that don't want to read it, its basically my take on the TF2 system and what valve has done wrong and right. It's suppose to clear up alot of ideas people have about the game. I clearly avoid casual vs. competitive topics as much as possible to keep it clean. As for what do i want to accomplish with this, well even I'm not sure but hopefully something will come of it. I expect to get a ton of flak on just about everything, but I'm use to that. I've already sent it to valve tonight so all that is left is to make it public.

Now here's the part i need everyone's help on. If you read it, and think its good, can you post it on other forums. Post the thread here and hopefully we can keep that thread bumped. I hope everyone understands the benefit of not me posting this else where. As for this thread itself, I'd rather keep it clean unlike all of the other threads i participate in. I'll answer some questions but in bulk to make it nicer. That's about it, and to further clarify one thing, when you get to the unlocks don't worry about the unlocks themselves. That's the least important part, whats important is the idea of the class and what to do with them.
Enjoy the read!

Jeez that was long. I didn't read every word, but I got most of it. I agreed with him on most of that and disagreed on some. Thanks for sharing this, I just hope he updates it or something once Valve is completely done updating TF2 and moves onto TF3.

worth reading the whole thing if you get a chance.
very thorough and well thought out, even if i don't agree on some points.

with emphasis on the spy section, i'd be surprised that you could get so high on the score-board without cloak or disguise but i think he nailed it with regards to the C+D and that the original watch is by far the more versatile and effective.

still, bit long but worth the effort

I'm writing my own paper on TF2 with my opinions as well, I feel that the C&D has potential to be used.

TF3?!?!

hell, it took us 8 years to get TF2. then again i didn't read the paper so maybe im missing something.

Just read it. Excellent read. I just hope they won't screw up the Soldier update, I want unlocks that are actually useful.

He has some good points, but I disagree on the CnD and FaN comments.

Since the last patch boosted the FAN damage, there is nothing more damaging than two blasts from it. It's even worse than the scattergun now.

And he's looking at the CnD all wrong.

He treats the spy as an assassin class. Able to kill a single annoying person and then run away.

The CnD turns it into a denial of camping spot class as well. you can kill that single annoying person, then deny them the ability to annoy from that spot for as long as you want.

Not only that, but you can use the spy as an intelligence-gathering class. You can sit in a safe area and report on all the enemy movements. All that will help your entire team to kill. He seems to be forgetting that it's not a deathmatch. Spies change from being solo killers to helping the whole team.

He argues for shifting the engineer niche, but then argues against shifting other classes' niches.

Really really long to read, but it was worth it. I agree with most things he says, but for others not.

I thought it was a mediocre paper. A lot of it was just his statements and assertions without any examples to back it up. His suggestions for alternative weapons weren't any better than suggestions I've seen on these forums, and I think it was an unneccesary part of the paper that took up a ton of room. The author's background is obviously competative play, and he doesn't really consider the "fun" factor of the game at all - which is one of the things that I think makes TF2 stand out from other first person shooters like like Counter-Strike. Anyways, to me it sounded like a 15 page rant that was poorly organized and didn't offer anything that hasn't been said before. Just my humble opinion :)

There is a server dedicated to him ran by Team Fortress 2 Fort, "Pro Like Chro"

I play there often.
