Do you think that newer games are too easy and short?

I play on Very Hard frequently and I die frequently even with enegery weapons such as the Plasma Rifle etc.

Fallout 3 has taken so many hours outta my life.

They're short yeah, but I wouldn't go as far as calling all of them easy. The Fallout-series consist of the longest games I have ever played. Fallout 3 drained 60 hours of my life before I got bored of it and threw it in a bin along with Windows Vista.

This is so true, you know why this is happening?
Consoles, the people who play them mostly just want to pick up and play and have fun.
And if it's too hard, they wine and stop playing the game and spread the rumor.

Eventually the developer feels the pain of not selling the game so they make it easier for them.
Sadly. :(

Fallout 3 was AWESOME. I have it for the X360, but I still love playing it, if my PC was upgraded to latest tech, I would get it for the PC, but you can't have everything though :P. The addon packs do add to the experience, but will it exactly keep the player playing? People these days aren't willing to play through a long game, because the experience might become old, and the game starts to become boring. I'm guessing that I'm just a person that has more time for playing games than most people.

Expansion packs can expand the game, but usually aren't long enough...

But I would enjoy a game more, if the game was long, but not final fantasy long, so i just want them to be as long as games in 1990's. Those games took a long time to beat, and the fun didn't stop at all.

Prototype is the single player game I love most in the world. I just wish it didn't end that quick. Beat the game on normal on about 13hours(where 2hours went stright to sandbox playing). and I don't want to replay it because I know exactly what happens. Though I still love playing sandbox, but it gets kinda lonley without missions.

Still gotta play that game...

Any game with a sandbox style of gameplay (for example, Grand Theft Auto series) has a lot of replay value. I remember after beating GTAIII, I founded myself looking for all the hidden packages, and doing side missions. It was a lot of fun.

The only way to get your length out of an FPS is to go max difficulty, tbh. The idea being, I mean hey, its not my first stroll with a Shotgun. I've now played dozens of FPSs. Half Life? That took me weeks to get through (seriously) and now I can get through it in an afternoon on the height of difficulty.

Its down to just being too familiar with the genre for the most part. Once you learn how to aim properly it translates to any other game you play. And that initial learning curve you had on your first few titles is just gone, and with it, countless hours of potential play. Some titles do have appropriate difficulty settings (like Halo) which does tap out a fair bit more play time though.

tattered sure a new game on hard is more challenging than a new game on normal but were talking comparison to modern games to stuff like system shock 2 and the original half-life.

Half-life 1 was insane, I put it on normal and headcrabs do 10 damage, I was like WTF.

i think that games are getting a lot shorter but hey i guess thats why they add random stuff to do in the side. Also achievements are a good idea to give people a reason to play. Like the crazy people who want to get the Seriously or Seriously 2.0 achievement in GoW or GoW 2, there you go about 50 hours right there

blame wii and the widespread casual gamer base for newer games lacking story, gameplay, style, etc and etc.

have to cater to the cash cow

edit: oh ya, dont forget companies trying to milk money from consumers..perfect example is all the games being released as big budget movies are.

edit2: and designers for not allowing the envelope to be pushed. instead of rolling with creative and interesting games they mostly stick to a few formulas

I do believe newer gamers are shorter.

I remember spending hours- weeks even, playing RPGs like FF7, FF8, Chrono Cross, Legend of the Dragoon, etc. Nowadays, RPG games can be finished in 2 or 3 sittings. I have to admit, I had more fun playing the old games than the new ones. PS1 > PS3 for me. The old pixel-ish graphics with the incredible storyline gives me nostalgia every time I play the oldies.

well it seems the newer genration cares more about graphics than story and gameplay

I have to agree with that as well. If there was a game with great story and gameplay, but less graphics, I'd totally play it.

and the reason why i think most new games are easy and short is because it also seems that the newer generation has a crap attention span
