im getting a little burned out on the same old maps so im going to take a little time and try to make a new map(ive only made very simple cs maps back in the day so this might take me a little while). tell me what you think about my idea...

it will be a mosque map modeled after the al-Rahman mosque(properly named al-rahman). do not be fooled, this will not be a small mosque map by any means!

since we are not allowed to go in or fire at mosques, it will be sealed for 30 seconds when an npc insurgent fires at the marines on patrol.

marines will then breach the mosque and take it as a push style map.

it will be insurgent favored of course.

it will be close emphasizing on teamwork and close quarters combat skills.

i have added a topographical representation of how it should look.

map key:
red= walls
yellow= parking lot
grean= cap points and route to next point

New maps are always fun, but (and this may be harsh) don't expect it to be put into rotation. Right now the servers are set up to be only the most popular maps except by RTV. Now, it would be really awesome to use as an event some time. Seems like a good idea, but I don't see why they would need an NPC insurgents to shoot. I get that the actual military forces aren't allowed to, but almaden has a mosque and no one seems to mind shooting it.

Looking forward to playtesting and final product, though! Good luck.

Dude, that is a the start of a awesome idea....If we can put a map out there that ppl like...and will use. It will really bolster our name in the INS community. Anything I can do to help just let me know.

thanks APR and un4gvn. yeah i wasnt planning on it being thrown in there just like that, but i just might set up a server of my own to throw it on. idk. just something to toy around with...

woohoo! got hammer up and running!

Yeah I think its a great idea as well, but is it going to be a close combat map like Office? I personally am not too big a fan of the Office maps, they aren't right for INS... I mean, I love the close combat, makes every corner more intense, but it starts to get ridiculous when the RPG's and M203's are constantly flying through blowing everyone this way and that.
Just something to think about, I love all the ideas lately. Everyone has been thinking of more and more ways to help try and improve INS, which makes me feel all warm n tingly inside...

yeah that is great idea. I would love to get involved in that plus I know a guy that makes dod source orange maps and really he is good at it he may be able to give some tips or help out in some trouble shooting. If you want I'll look him up see if he would be interested.

yes! i will take all help, tips troubleshooting that i can! thanks guys. pimp daddy, im looking at the map being bigger than office, and several stories high. the real mosque is huge! google pics for al-rahman and you will see what im talking about. i probably wont build it to scale(or maybe i will?!) but it is very large and i intend with trying to stay as close to the original as i can.

^you sure that not just the med's?

this is a great idea and i cant wait, need any help PM me, i have a little knowledge of hammer used it for a bit for TF2 guna try tinkering with INS

so here is what im working with now... this will be an "under construction" mosque map (hence the construction fence, guard gate, construction equipment, etc). as a marine you will start as a security member of a PRT or provincial reconstructive team. google it if you dont know what that is. the map will be approximately 300m long from marine spawn to parking lot. thats a long haul. first and second spawn are usually tough to get. oh well. the mosque will be two stories high with stair cases. the highest point will be in the large room as a scaffold(maybe operable?) providing great view, but little cover for snipers. most of the second floor buildings will open to a balcony wrapping around the large room. some cap points will be upstairs. there is a technique to clearing stairs in a squad and by your self. it will be necessary on this map.

the problem with current ins maps i dont like is that they are supposed to give realism which they try very hard at, but the one thing that makes them fail is lack of color. iraqi's love green, red, purple, blue, yellow, etc. in all cities you will find tons of blankets, paintings, painted walls, bright furniture in homes, etc. so im going to try my best to bring 100% realism on this map. all you combat vets out there and foreign travelers who have been there give me your input especially because im sure i will miss a lot.

the only "fakeness" im going to put on this map is our clan tag somewhere if im allowed to do so...

if anyone knows where i can get some good desert style and Iraqi type wads i would greatly appreciate it. i could also use a tutorial on lighting. im pretty much squared away with everything else.

thanks for reading this and thanks for those who have responded. i have so many ideas floating around in my head. please feel free to give me an idea. ill most likely use it!

While the idea of taking stairs is intriguing, please be sure to make it so it's not just one staircase. I would hate for it to come down to just all the marines trying to funnel through a single one-man wide hole. I understand going for realism, but the map still has to be fun.

Oh, and the tag should be plastered all over every single object, movable or not. ;)

eGO tag, noted! lol

as for the stairs, im planning on two sets of stairs inside and 1 ladder inside for each smaller building with an opening above the stairs governed by a parapit wall just tall enough to keep ins from shooting over it while enabling nades to be thrown above or below. so the 2nd floor will be not as long as the 1st. along the catwalk of the big room, there will be cover provided and either a ladder or set of stairs for each room.

im also going to put a sniper tower in the lower left portion of my mspaint pic facing the parking lot.

there will also be a couple tunnels underground and maybe vents too.

Nice! I love the realism aspect. What about more buildings you are able to go inside. Most maps seem to give a pretty linear progression that cut down on the realism. Course it can wreak havoc on gameplay depending on how it's put together, but I love the unpredictability.

Aren't you the one who offered to take awesome desert pictures because that's basically where you are? :P
If you have pictures you want to send, I'm sure myself or a bunch of other eGO members would be willing to package them for you.
