I gently skimmed parts of this thread and all I have to say is that if you doubt Google, you are wrong.

Take a look at their track record for uhm... everything they've ever done. It's been good.
I'm not a fan of Chrome but I use Gmail and Google exclusively.
I am excited to see what they come up with.

I use all of their stuff, not gmail so much since i've had my yahoo account so long. I will probably use the OS since i read it's going to be free which will be pretty neat. My wife is also getting a netbook soon so that will help with the limited space. If it will run steam and support my games then all the better, i'll keep a copy of windows on my machine tho.

im definitely going to try this. i love the minimalist interface of chrome and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in a much larger scale.
Blooming is definately right...I mean even if you don't love the search engine or the web browser ,which I am currently using, Google owns You tube...Seriously if this os can hook me up to You tube with an app or something I would be "sold" right there. But that's even better it is free...well it doesn't really matter when it comes down to it some people are going to hate it others will love it. Just like with all operating systems and it won't be any different for google.

I love Chrome. I use it as my main browser. It's sexy and fun. Through a combination of the way it is and the number of plug-ins I have installed, Firefox is pretty slow to start up and to do things. When you're constantly alt-tabbing between games and stuff that gets quite annoying. I'd definitely install a 'chrome OS' on my netbook...

I'm really glad they're developing a distribution of Linux. My friends, you're seeing history being written. With the backing of the colossus that is Google, Linux will become far more popular and more people will become familiar with it. Now that Google's supporting Linux, I wouldn't be surprised to see more games run natively on that platform.

Course I do, Operating System..
and Steam could be an OS. Its already like a mini desktop. They could turn it into something bigger though.

plays2 the current idea is for the netbook market and so far the main things people use netbooks for are e-mail, chat, voip, office, media. and there are very good web apps for all of these things and google makes 4 out of 5 of them. so it makes perfect sense to make a OS around web apps. this also allows it to be very slim and have low requirments so that mean netbooks that are even cheaper than todays netbooks that are ment to push XP and and linux distros.

Apparently Google is releasing Chrome OS in later 2010 for netbooks for the purpose of web browsing, it won't be until after that that they will release an OS to compete against the big 3. (Windows, Linux, Mac)
Although my personal opinion: Hate Macs (It's a bad word in my house, lol), Linux is okay (I'm not used to it), Love Windows (Even though it costs an arm and a leg and there are 10 choices to choose from, I've used Windows all my life.
