weird box things on my desktop

so I've had this weird issue. on my desktop I have these strange boxes that wont go away. It doesnt matter if I reboot they just come back. my programs over lap them but it gets kind of annoying. I'll post a screenshot

Could be a video card issue or you have spyware/virus. I don't see a virus scanner icon running near your clock so I assume you don't use one. Use AVG's free scanner, download,install,update,full scan. Then download,install,update, and scan with MalwareBytes.

Scan with these first then come back and let us know if you still have the issue.

It seems like your friends list for Steam crashed, try going into task manager and killing the process for Steam. If not, look at what's using the most memory and post it here.

Try unistalling Xfire and deleting the program folder.

Then re-install...


If that doesn't work take it to the Xfire forums

Yeah that problem usually come from the program , by killing it, you should be ok.

the experiences i have had with that have come with a buggy steam. If you exit steam, do the boxes go away? try this before uninstalling anything

yeah it could very likely be a steam or xfire glitch. As for the Anti virus thing, I scan once a month and turn it off.

Extremely dumb idea, it's most likely a virus you should have your virus protection on at all times.

I'm going to have to second this. No matter what, you should always have some sort of active protection running. Even if you're extremely careful about what you browse and download, there is always still a chance something may slip by.

Well by the screenshot I would have to say either a buggy Xfire, or faulty video card drivers. Some times with cards (no matter what model) the drivers might miss a few files during installation, but tell you it worked. Just find the latest drivers for your card (even if its the same ones) and re-download them from the net and re-install them. If it still happens, do the same with Xfire.

I downloaded the new drivers and it fixed the problem! As for the virus protection, I havnt gotten a single virus or malware in the past 10 months since I got my new computer. the virus program asks you, are you sure you want to do this? Are you sure you want this game to be connected to internet? OR Are you sure you want to live? Everything time you do something it always asks you about it and it just slows me down. Not worth it. Plus i'm not the type who wanders around the web.
