Dumb Idea: Pills with sweet coatings..

Am I the only one who thinks this is a dumb idea? The last time I took a tylenol, I noticed a rather sweet cherry taste. I assumed it was something I ate, but I realized that the new tylenols are coated with a sweet flavour. Then, I get a refill of my pain medication, and it has the same deal! They now have a sweet coating. Am I the only person who thinks this is a dumb idea? Sure, by the time most people are at least 5 or so years older, they can tell the difference between a pill and candy, but not all young children will, and that's not news, there are warnings everywhere that especially young children might not know the difference.

I remember quite distinctly when I was somewhere around 3 or 4, I picked up what looked like an M&M and it was a pill, but I could tell it wasn't sweet so I spat it out. But what if that was a pill in a sweet coating? I probably would've swallowed it. While it's still best to keep pills as far away from toddlers as possible, accidents happen, and I just feel that making pills with a sweet coating is a really dumb idea.. Anyone else agree? Also whats the point in the first place? I know pills taste bad but that's why you don't sit them on your tongue..

Well for Watson brand hydrocodone (Though that's a prescription) and Extra Strength tylenol, its there. Apparently its meant to make it go down your throat easier. I still think its a dumb idea. :chair:
 
I for one like the bitter taste of pills that don't have the coating on it. It forces me to swallow faster so I won't have to taste it.
 
As if its not easy enough to get addicted anyways. Soon they will have free massages when you take your meds.
 
Uh, I usually swallow them fast enough I don't taste anything.. Haven't seen any of the coated pills, sounds like a waste.

If I'm not mistaken, Vicodin and Hydrocodone are the same thing. I take Watson Brand hydrocodone (And yes, I'm taking it legally too. Unfortunately. 3 kindsa chronic pain :crying:) and it's got that coating, so change a brand up and you can... although I still think its kind of a stupid idea >_>
 
I do like the coatings that make them easier to swallow, but adding flavoring is asking for trouble.

Even something as innocuous as acetaminophen can destroy a small kid's liver. The therapeutic and toxic doses in young children is awfully close in range.
 
Better parenting and keeping prescription or over the counter meds out of reach of children would keep any accidents from happening.

Although keeping them tasting like crap would prevent said accidents from happening when parents fail to keep they're children safe.
 
If I'm correct, pills are meant to be swallowed with water. So why should anyone care about how they taste? What a stupid idea to make pills taste better.
 
I dont see the point anyway. Its in your mouth for like what 2 seconds?
 
Sweet coating

Well I ended up being rushed to the hospital and dying because I'm allergic to something in the sweet coating, so I think this is the stupidest thing ever...
