Hey guys having a real serious problem: I can't access the internet on my desktop. Right now i'm on my laptop and i can on here. Both computers are using the same router for internet connection so it's definitely something wrong with my desktop. I don't even know what happened. I was randomly just browsing the internet and lost connection. Nothing installed nothing changed. I tried uninstalling several microsoft windows updates that were installed yesterday but that didn't fix the problem. I also tried a system restore which didn't work because it said nothing changed. I've tried stopping Windows Defender, Zone Alarm, and AVG all at once...nothing changed.Zone Alarm and AVG Free currently. Any solutions you guys can think of??? (and it's not a problem with t he router or a connection to it)

firewalls are all off and nothing wrong with proxy settings. it's a wireless router

One thing you can try is if you're using a third party wireless detector is to turn it off and start up the windows default one. I had that problem with my linksys wireless detector problem, then switched back to Windows Zero Configuration and it worked like a charm.

uinstall your wireless adaptor card in your desktop, then reinstall it using newer drivers.

also, download a program called Ccleaner ( just google it) and clean up your computer.

you could also try turning off all computers on the network. Completely off. Then, unplug your modem/router for 30 seconds so it has no power. Turn it back on until it finishes setting up, then turn on only your desktop machine then the others one at a time and see if you get a connection.

If it's on wireless, try plugging it directly into the router with a cable. It's also a possibility that your wireless card died on you.

try this:

open up command line (start -> run -> then type cmd and press enter if on xp or just press start and in the search on vista)
type ipconfig /release
then after that type ipconfig /renew

then try to get online.

k found the problem, either it's a cable connecting to modem or it's a port on the modem itself that broke; we rent it from Verizon so they're just going to send us a new one and hopefully problem solved ;)
