Here is the guide (text only):

IMPORTANT NOTE BEFORE READING: I MADE THIS GUIDE JUST TO SHOW NEW PLAYERS TO THE CLASS TO SHOW THEM HOW TO PLAY PROPERLY THE SPY AND ADVANCED SPY PLAYERS, TECHNIQUES THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE NOT HEARD OF.
Introduction:
The spy at my eyes is one of the most viable class in the team because he can sap sentries, disturb the enemy etc? However, the spy is one of the hardest classes in Team Fortress 2 but can be really lethal if used properly. This guide will cover the Spy Weapons, Advantages and disadvantages against other classes, tips and tricks, advanced techniques.

The Spy weapons :

The revolver: It?s the spy primary weapon, but in most cases, people consider it as their secondary weapon because they use the Knife more often then the revolver. The revolver holds 6 bullets and carry 30 bullets in total (24+6=30 if you didn?t realise) It deals around 55-60 damage per shot. The main problem with the spy?s revolver is that it?s really noisy and draws a lot of attention. I personally recommend to use the Ambassador if you have one (I will talk about it later) is more effective is you are really good at getting headshots. However, the revolver is still a decent weapon but I wouldn?t trust it on my life if I was you.

The sapper: For the sapper they?re isn?t much to say, it has unlimited ammo, it?s used to sap the enemy engineer buildings and that is pretty much it. It can be only destroy by the engineer wrench and it takes 2 hits by the wrench to be removed off the engineer?s buildings. Me what I usually do is when an engineer got his back turned to the sentry, I backstab him and In a fraction of a second I switch to my sapper and sap the sentry, it works 85 % of the cases ( I will talk about this technique more detailed in the tips and tricks section.) Also, here is the amount of time it takes to destroy an engineer building with a sapper:
? Level 1: 6 seconds
? Level 2: 7 seconds
? Level 3: 9 seconds

The knife: It?s probably the most favourite weapon of all people who use to spy, like all melee weapon it got unlimited usage. It deals around 30-55 damage, when it?s a backstab it?s an insta-kill. The knife is very useful to the whole team, for example: A medic-heavy pair , just get back behind the medic Stab him after kill the heavy and you got one potential team damager down. (Remember always pick your targets carefully.)

The disguise kit: Basically, the disguise kit is just to disguise yourself as the enemy team,
This link pretty much summarized it up: http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Disguise
Personally, it?s your choice of what disguise you should use or not, me I prefer being a soldier or a demoman, It?s pretty much you that chooses what is more suitable for you. The disguise for me I think it?s is good but a bit useless since pretty much everyone knows how to identify a disguised spy.

The invisibility watch: It?s really good for hiding yourself from enemies and after pick your target and kill him, the cloak duration is around if I?m not mistaken 15-20 seconds something around this number, but can be recharged by picking up fallen weapons or ammo. NOTE: A spy can lose his cloak completely by receiving jaratee.

Spy update unlockables:

The Cloak and dagger: It?s a spy invisibility watch that regenerates by standing still or not using it, so you can stay cloaked as long as you want just by standing still, I would recommend this watch to players who like to pick their targets very carefully and make sure that every shot counts. NOTE: when moving this spy watch loses more cloak power than the normal invisibility watch.

The dead ringer: A nice spy watch that can be easily used to trick the enemy, just activate it by pressing the right mouse button and whenever you will get hit, you will receive minimal damages ( usually I lose 5 to 10 HP) and bingo you?re now an invisible man for 6.5 seconds and after when it?s fully depleted to 100%, it takes 16 seconds to recharge it fully.

The Ambassador : Probably the most important unlockable of all, this little baby here does 15% less damage and has a 20 % slower firing rate then the normal spy revolver. However, the first shot is 100% accurate and after each shot will slowly decrease. One of the main advantages of it, a headshot will instantly result into a critical hit. Some people like to use it as a long range weapon since of the headshot functionality and also the 100% accuracy on the first shot.

The advantages and disadvantages of the spy versus other Classes :

Spy VS. Scout: The scout is probably one of the most difficult target for the spy, the main problem is that he runs too fast for the spy because he runs 33 % faster than the spy. The main strategy to backstab a running scout is to line up with him and wait until he runs backwards then strike him with the knife and it will result as a successful backstab. Another way to kill him is to use the ambassador. Since the ambassador does at least with a headshot 100 damage, wait until he does a stop, after take your ambassador shoot him the head, after shoot him anywhere else and there you go 2 shots and he?s dead. The force-a-Nature is probably one of the most current problem with the spy, since the new update that change the damage values of the FAN all the scout needs to kill you is to just line up closely with you and one shot of it and there you go you?re dead. The main way to counter it (only use it when there is more than 2 scouts on the enemy team) is to use the dead ringer. Since the dead ringer protect you from damage it is easy to get shot with the scout, and after wait until he?s in your sights and go for the backstab technique or the ambassador.

Spy VS. Soldier: The soldier is one of the easiest targets to backstab. Let me explain myself, first of all, since the soldier runs 20 % slower than the spy, it?s one of the easiest target to kill since he?s slow. Only choose the weapon you?re the most comfortable with and there you go he?s dead. Note: Never ever, go in a battle with the soldier in front of you, it only take one or two rockets ( depending on the case) to take you down very easily.
Spy VS. Pyro : The pyro is really the spy-killer. Since he got the ability to put everyone on fire it?s really easy to reveal a disguised spy or a cloaked spy. There is to strategies to take him down (there a bit like the scout ones). The first one is to use your ambassador and pick him off a safe distance with 2 headshots streak. The second one is to basically take him off like a normal target but watch how he reacts, because pyro?s usually like to spray fire everywhere they go. Note : He runs as fast as the spy.

Spy VS. Demoman:
Another easy target to backstab since he runs 6% slower than the spy, just get behind his back and stab him, easy to do, and after everyone is happy since all his stickies are destroyed immedialty. The ambassador technique apply too but just don?t be in front of him he usually use his grenade laucher and you never really know where he shoots, sometimes it?s really unpredictable, just get yourself at a good distance 2 headshot streak and he?s down for good.
Spy VS. Heavy:
The MOST easiest target to backstab from all the other classes, he runs 23% slower than the spy, this gives you one of the biggest avantages to stab him just line up with him and stab him, if it?s a medi-heavy combo well stab the medic first and after the heavy and it?s that easy. The ambassador technique is less then recommended because it would take at least 3 to 4 straight headshots to get him down and a headshot with the ambassador sometimes is hard, so I prefer just to stab him directly. Note: Never face a spinning heavy machinegun you never know if he?s going to fire or not, let?s just not take that chance.
Spy VS. engineer:
Probably the class that the engineer hates the most since he can sap all his buildings, the main tactic to get an engy with a sentry and other buildings commence by localizing his buildings, done, then at good distance withdraw your ambassador and snipe him one or 2 shots and he?s down then sap all his buildings and job done. Other way around, this technique apply when the sentry is NOT facing you and you are facing from her back, when the engineer is really facing it, kill him, in half a second take your sapper right away and sap the sentry and there you go it is down and no more sentry demolishing your team, NOTE: DO NOT DO IT if there is multiple sentry in the area. He runs as fast as the spy.
Spy VS medic:
Another easy target to backstab, since he is almost always using is medi-gun really easy just get lined-up when he?s not facing you and stab him. There isn?t that much to say for techniques how to properly backstab the medic it?s pretty much from your own choice. Just use the best technique that you find comfortable to use and backstab him and it?s that easy. Note: He runs 7% faster than the spy.

Spy VS. Sniper:
Quick and easy to backstab, when the sniper is zoomed in just get behind him and backstab him and it?s that easy, Note: when he?s zoomed in with his sniper rifle he runs 73% slower than the spy so it?s really easy to kill him, also when the huntsman is charged he runs 55 % slower than the spy. It?s a bit more difficult to kill a sniper with a huntsman than when he?s with a sniper rifle because he moves a bit more faster but still easy to backstab. Also when the Sniper has the razorback on his back when you stab him your knife is shocked and cannot stab for at least 3 second + your cloak is unusable for that period. I never really killed a sniper with a razorback so I cannot really elaborate a strategy for that.

Spy VS. Spy: Pretty much who is the best spy between the two; there isn?t that much tactic to elaborate about him.

Class: Scout Soldier Pyro Demoman Heavy Engineer Medic Sniper Spy
Difficulty to kill Hard Easy Medium-hard Medium Easy Medium-hard Easy Medium(Hard with razorback) Indefinable

Basic techniques and tips :
? Use dead angles and spot where the enemy doesn?t really look
? Cloack in areas where they ?re is a lot of firepower going on
? When facing a pyro always try to get away safely

The end of the guide for now?
New version coming in August hope this one help though, it took me a lot of time to make it so please read it and if you have anything to edit or add contact me on steam, on ventrilo or pm me on the forum. Hope you?ll all like it. ( And yes I know about the grammar errors, please excuse me, English isn?t my first language hope you understand. Final version will be almost removed from all gramaticall errors)

Until next time,
Your?s truly,

Wait,Instead of safely getting away do this,Stay away from pyros PERIOD

Im not sure, but I think most new spies wanna learn how to use the new weapons better as well as learning short cuts on maps that allow them to flank the enemy as well as run away fast. This is a basic guide telling you about spy vs another class, but when ur up against every class at once you have to learn to be invisible and then learn when to strike and how to utilize your weapons properly. Try fitting these things in when updating this thread.

Here's my spy guide:
1) Get cloak and dagger. It takes more patience then the other watches, but it's the best for players wanting to get better at spy. Also use the ambassador if there's a good number of snipers with razorback. If you ahve trouble pulling off those headshots, use the revolver and aim for the head anyway
2) Don't try to run into a choak point or enemy base when lots of people are coming out or going in (i.e. teammates). You will get shot and you will get spotted. Unless of course you're using the dead ringer, in which case those are the perfect times to run in disguised as a teammate, feign your death, re-disguise as enemy, get far away enough from enemies so your decloaking sound doesn't ignite too much suspicion
3) Pick and choose your moments. Don't try to be a hero and attempt to backstab 4 - 5 people. You'll most likely get spotted decloaking and swiftly killed. People running around by themselves are the best targets always.
4) Take care of those pesky razorback snipers with a quick 1-2 punch using your ambassador. if you can make that first shot a headshot, he's yours.
5) Whenever possible take out snipers first, they're the ones most on the lookout for you, especially if they're not equipped with a razorback.

That should be enough to get you freshies going. Eventually you can work on developing more advanced tactics.

Awesome vids GingaNinja. Even as veteran spy there was some pointers I picked up from those.

Things I really liked:
- Prioritizing targets, go for the biggest threats, not the easiest kills when possible.
- As the title says, know your role. Always be asking yourself "How can you best help your team." (which you should be doing as any class... :P)
- Disguise as people you just killed. Like how he took out the engy and immediately disguised as an engy.
- Since he's using the normal watch, he's always got in the back of his mind where he's gonna get the next metal from to recharge his cloak. He never relies on the natural recharge time. Crucial tactic for normal watch and dead ringer.
- if you suspect your cover is blown at all, get out of there, don't get greedy. if you get outta there people will be distracted spy checking where you were, meanwhile you can be on the prowl elsewhere.

Disliked:
- He has a habit of disguising as scout. Don't get me wrong he's awesome at spy, but scout is easily one of the worst disguises.
- Not his fault, but no one in that vid bothered to look behind themselves. if i was on the opposing team in that map and saw everyone getting backstabbed, I would be on red alert for spies. I feel people have gotten much better at this.

Side point:
- these vids were recorded before the spy/sniper update which greatly changed the gameplay, not to say these tactics are invalid in any way, but just pointing that out.
- each watch is very different in how you play it. As these vids so expertly demonstrated, the normal watch is very fast paced, you gotta always be running around. not easy for the less experienced or if you're playing on a map you don't play a whole lot. You have to find those health/ammo stations and have that in the back of your mind for when you need to retreat.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the revolver. The noise is a non-issue, the only times you should use it are when you've been discovered already. Flailing wildly with the knife in these cases hoping for a face-stab usually results in death. Backing away and using the revolver usually results in killing your enemy and going back to what you were doing. The revolver is very powerful and very accurate, and you don't need to worry about scoring headshots.

I play pyro mainly, and I'm usually a dedicated spychecker when I do. I die to revolvers a LOT more than Ambassadors.

You're probably right. A less experienced player should stick with the revolver. Since sniper is my most played class, headshots come second nature to me.

Since the update the ambassador isn't as good imo, Even if you hit the head all the time you still have to wait for the cooldown. When I use my pistol it's usually when they are low hp and running at me, so all I need is a quick finisher. Not one of those spys that just sit around and HS people instead of stabbing.

No i definitely don't do that, I really dislike spies that do that. It's like, if you wanted to snipe, be sniper you fool! My tactic usually comes down to getting that first headshot, and then unloading my clip. if they've still failed to die somehow, a swipe or two with the knife finishes the job.

Also revolver takes a shot or two extra on razorback snipers, those few seconds are critical. if there's no razorback snipers, I usually switch it up to revolver. Although I just got a sweet skin from fpsbanana for my Ambassador

Like I say You can like or dislike what you think that I wrote in my guide, I mean you can elaborate your own strategy, but I made this to players new to the class, but yes I agree the revolver should be more useful than the ambassador because ambassador sometime is hard to have a headshot but for me its easy, I shall make the changes in the newer version in august.
